PSU Randomly Shutting Down / Rebooting

Since my new build these corsair PSU's have been the only source of frustration. The first one I got had a fan squeak that was just unbearable.

Now, I'm almost certain the new HX750 I have is experiencing failure, and it's been doing it for a month or two without my knowledge. Randomly, whether the computer is idle or in a game, it will just reboot. Sometimes once, sometimes 2-3 consecutive times. It actually went 36 hours without rebooting and did it again about 10mins ago, 4-5 times.

Has anyone experienced this? Can I get a much more sufficient replacement? This is getting ridiculous.

No BSoD. Just a shutdown and a restart. This is what shows up in the event viewer

Kernel-power Error 41

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

BRB Checking the readings for the three main rails.

For the most part. Was looking for a 5v reading too, but thats okay. Really this could be a few different things. PSU,MB, thermal just to name a few.

Do you have a spare PSU to test in your system?

The fact that you have had two PSU result in an unstable system makes sort of suspect the MB. But if you want to replace the PSU ,you always have that option.

So what happened today. It's about 12:30pm and I'm starting to wake up, I hear my computer randomly power down. I go to it and it does it about 5-6 times, power down, wait 2 seconds, power back on. Basically, it's not starting up whatsoever.

I say, let me test this PSU. I go to best buy and get a thermaltake smart series m 850w. I install it no problem, power on and it powers on with no problem so far. Before I jump to any conclusions I want to see if I can go 3 days without it randomly powering off. If it is indeed fixed I plan on RMA'ing the hx750.

Do you have an SSD in your system? That could also be caused from the HDD or SSD. That error is not saying that the system lost power only that the Kernel became unstable and was shut down.

I have a Corsair HX750 and this happend to me too, but the problem went away after I took out the PSU and reinstalled everything. I always crashed / rebooted when playing games with vsync off so heavy voltage. I dont know if it was something going on with the GPU or what because I could run EVGA Scanner X and stress test for hours and the PC will be fine with no crash, but as soon as I start up a game with vsync off I crashed within 30 secs.

I also found that the plug in the wall socket was only half way in, if I moved the wire while the plug was like that the computer would restart the exact same way it did with v sync off and give me Kernal 41. But like I said, I got a Corsair AX1200i, because of this, and OFC it died so I installed my HX750 again to use as my AX1200i went through RMA and the problem seems to have gone.

It sounds like a dumb test but go to your AC power cord and just move it up and down and see if the comp restarts, then check all connections, open up your PC check the PCIE Connectors on your GPU etc etc.

Even though the AC cord was plugged in all the way my comp would restart every 1 in 2 3DMark11 runs, always @ the space ship level.

Dont know if it matters but ever since then I always turned off my comp during the night and ever since I started that routine I have NOT HAD a Kernal 41 turn off reboot. Maybe some static build up in the PSU? because I noticed that when I did crash, I could fold fine for 10 hours, crash once, then crash almost right away until I let the system rest. + The PSU made poppin noises when I powered on the PC.

Same exact thing happening to me as OP. I have the HX850. I suspect it was a power issue to my GPU. I tried switching the two PCI-E cable that are hardwired to PSU to the separate modular cables (my 5850 requires 2). After I made the switch I didn't get any random reboots for about 3 days. I thought the problem was solved, but now it started again last night. I ordered another PSU that is on the way, but I am curious to know if CX3's PC is still running without incident?
