iSpitfire
Hi, whenever I boot my PC the fan on my AX1200i goes super fast for around 5 seconds then turns off (I know the turning off part is normal). Is it normal for it to spin up like that? Its really loud, maybe self calibrating? Dont have the Corsair Link hooked up btw.
peanutz94
Yes, that normal. The PSU does a self test of the fan as it powers up.
Speed
Mine spins up for maybe 3 seconds and certainly not super-fast. Obviously, there's no way to measure the RPM but if feels like perhaps 25%. Just a short puff comes out and it shuts off before the POST has even completed. I had to check just now, as I was unaware that it spun up at all; it's so quiet. Of course, that is in comparison to the four 120 SP fans on the H100i that go through their self test at boot, too.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 8, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 8, 2013 If you unhook all the cables does it fail the self Test? If so then please use the link and request and RMA and call our customer service by phone and let them know it is less than thirty days old and ask for pre-paid shipping. iSpitfire
Already sent my PSU back to NCIX for their RMA, they sent me a new one should be here in 48 hours. yes all cables were unhook for Self Test as per manual. I held down the button the fans spun for like 1 sec green light then red light, then when I tried to test the next 10 times I just got red lights so i packed and shipped. NothinPersonal
Maybe that's odd because I don't hear NOTHIN when I boot my pc up other than the power on sound. Hell, sometimes I get nervous because I haven't heard or seen the fan spin since I've installed it. Other than that, I've had zero problems. I even check the temps in the Corsairlink Software to make sure it's still alive... lol even though my computer is perfectly up and running. But yeah, the only time you'll probably see the fan spin in my opinion is when you POST. Wish they made this PSU with a red rocker switch.
Tzvia
Don't hear a thing either, fans rarely spin at all. That is why I have lurked here a bit; 1200i works just fine, but even under high usage (dual sli, OC'd 3770k, 4hds, 2 opticals, custom water w/D5 pump, fans, 32gig ram) gaming or Priming, and PSU temps getting into 50s c, fan rarely actually starts up... Got link hooked up, ran latest Link2 and had to change it to FIXED, 55% instead of DEFAULT. It was a bit too quiet for me, I would rather see the PSU running in the upper 20s, and 30s C, over being quiet. 4 Corsair SPHP fans on a 360 rad+ others masks whatever noise the PSU could possibly make. Wish the setting would hold and I would not have to type in my admin password twice on every boot just to get the Link software running, that is a PITA, have to do that for the software for my GPUs to get my fan curve loaded too. BTW, would be nice to have a small fan curve program for the PSU and skip all that Link stuff, not needed for just a PSU. And make it a SERVICE with one tray app that runs via REGISTRY RUN without admin for the fan curve would be nice, or reprogram the PSU to turn on fans at lower temp then current and skip the software gymnastics. PSU works just fine, just not happy with it skewed so heavily for silence over heat. Would rather have a little noise + cool.
