2666C11 Platinums won't boot, post. 3770K, Sniper 3

Hello,

I just got my hands on a quad set of 2666C11 platinums. There is no way they will post in any settings other than default settings. They won't do 2666, neither 2400 nor 2133.

This mobo and CPU worked just fine with 2x4GB 2133 Ares so it is not the IMC.

The Ares XMP worked OK, the Platinum's XMP keeps failing.

Supposedly this kit is guaranteed to work with my mobo so is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Thank you.

Edit: it won't even do 1600.

Edit 2: updated BIOS to the latest stable version. Still nothing.

Phantasmo, you do realize that 2666mhz with that CPU for a 24/7 machine is just about impossible. Your CPU only supports a max speed of 1600mhz and trying to run your memory at 2666mhz is a HUGE memory overclock. Not very many CPU's have a memory controller strong enough to run these at rated speeds. If you can get 2133mhz but no higher then it indeed is your IMC topping out.

Apporx 1 out of 25 CPU are capable of this. but not very many

EDIT: Missed that they won't run at 1600 either sorry. But yes test them one at a time to see if you have a bad module. But i still think 2666mhz with that CPU is a long shot. So if you decide to have them replaced and get the same results, then it is your IMC.

Hello,

I know the IMC is designed for 1600@1.5V. I bought this kit to have some overhead and go just as far as the IMC would go. Problem is this kit won't even reach Z77 standards, but I could reach 2133 24/7 just fine with the previous kit.

There's definitely a problem here since memtest loads ok but then does nothing. Red "+" keeps flashing but nothing happens, not a single pixel moves.

It's been like that for half an hour.

Thank you guys.

I didnt have any luck getting Platinum 2400 up to speed either. Peanutz is correct. He and I had a discussion on same topic. Getting any speed above 2133mhz is a frigging lottery. Shady marketing practices by manufactures in my opinion. The manufactures claim compatibility, but dont fully explain. It comes down to the IMC on CPU.

I have the Platinum on a RIVF now, as my P9X79 Deluxe went south. If your memory is good, I doubt very highly you will see speeds above 2200mhz. I tried two different 16GB 2400mhz kits. One G.Skill Trident and the other Dominator Platinum. Both clocked relatively the same. 2200mhz max. That is not to say it is impossible. I am pretty good at oc'ing a CPU, but not so great with memory.

If you are suave with memory, you can try timings and a few other things. I just got my 3930K into this RIVF, so I havent given it much effort yet to get above 2133mhz.

As mentioned above, if the memory is good, you should at least be able to get 2133mhz.

Yeah, it sure sounds like it. I would have it replaced.

Bottom line:

I replaced the kit and got a 16GB 2133 Platinum kit.

This new set runs at 2133MHz just fine, no problems at all.

Thanks everybody for your input.

Edit: 2133MHz CL9, all V parameters within Intel's IB specs. Good job Corsair!
