H80i Pump Header Connection

Is it necessary to plug the pump into the CPU_Fan header?

Or can i just leave it unplugged?

I have two aftermarket PWM fans that i want controlled via the MOBO and was wondering if i could either connect the pump to a chassis header or leave it unplugged since the pump speed does not change.

Yes you can leave it unplugged or plug it on a case fan header but in that case you won't have a CPU Fan Error to warn you if the pump fail.

Some would tell it's not a good idea to plug multiple fans on the same mobo header but you could get a splitter to connet the 2 fans directly off the same cpu fan header.

leaving it unplugged produces a fan error and the unit will fail to boot, bios needs to see a rpm signal

Right,

but if i am using aftermarket fans and plug them into the CPU FAN/OPT headers

do i still need to plug the pump header in?

is there any actual interaction between the pump and mobo? or will it function the same unplugged?

essentially the wire isnt needed but the m/b cpufan needs a fan hooked to it in order to see a rpm signal in order to boot up.

but,,its still best to use the pump wire as designed just in case there is a pump failure
