zlikr
Hello everyone, i recently got a new computer with a Corsair PSU (Enthusiast TX850). I am not using a GPU so the load is most of the time low. But recently was of hot temperatures in my country, the PSU fan starts spinning for a while, and its a little noisy (a noise like brrrrrrrrrrrr). Its a little loud and its more noisy than my crappy CPU stock fan. I wonder if it has a problem, and im asking this because on my old computer i used to have a Corsair PSU 450W (and i was totally satisfied), it was almost silent and the fan was working all the time. I also want to ask something in case it has something to do with this noise problem. How do i install the PSU? I have this case http://www.corsair.com/us/pc-cases/carbide-series-pc-case/carbide-series-300r-compact-pc-gaming-case.html which has the PSU slot on the bottom. At the moment i have the PSU with the fan facing up. (in my old computer the fan was facing down). Is there a chance that i hear this noise because the fan is facing up? Should it face down? If yes is there a chance i have done any damage to the fan because it was facing up? If i put it facing down, how can it get air?.. Sorry for the many questions. :o:

If yes is there a chance i have done any damage to the fan because it was facing up? If i put it facing down, how can it get air?.. Highly doubtful! In cases where the PSu is mounted on the botto of the case there is usually an intake hole at the bottom of the case so the PSU ca draw in cool air. However, you can still mount the PSu with the fan facing up. You would just be getting warmer air from the case as your intake air and exhausing it out the back of the PSU. I'm sure there are people going to say that mounted fan down is the way to go, but it's not a necessity!. I have the 650D and along with a couple of other bottom mounted cases and all have had the fns facing up (mostly because i have an LED fetish ) and all my PSU's have all used LED fans that i like to see. The only exception to this is like you stated it has become warmer in your area , your PSU temps/Case temps may be higher than normal. So you may want to flip the PSU over to get cooler air through your PSU. If the system is stable and not overheating(which in your case I highly doubt without a discreet GPU) i wouldn't worry about it much. In either case it wouldn't have caused any damage to the fan. So to answer your original question, the fan should be silent or real close to it. You may want to consider having it replaced if it can be heard over the rest of your system. zlikr
Just sent it to my local store. They say they can't hear anything.... Don't know what to do now... I do hear it and i am sure it is the PSU because when the fan stops, the sound stops also... Is there a chance it does that sound on low loads only? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 9, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 9, 2013 Do you also hear the sound when the system is under load? because it sounds like the noise is coming from the fan, since you have mentioned that the noise stops as soon the the fan stops. The PSU can either go fan facing up or down, it's a matter preference and will not damage the PSU's fan.
zlikr
No, the noise only happens when the fan spins. Especially when the fan starts spinning its very loud and after a while it a little less noisy but still loud. Also before and after the fan spins i hear some kind of electronic noises, dont know how to describe it, like a buzzing noise. It always happens before and after the fan starts, and it always has the exact same pattern. That electronic noise disappears when the fan spins, it only happens right before or right after the fan stops. Is it safe to use the PSU? I dont want it to fry all my components. What can i do now? Its starts getting hot in my country and it happens more and more, its very annoying. I will try to record the sound.
peanutz94
Yes, the PSU is safe to use. There is no danger of frying other components...at least from this issue. What you are hearing is the fan controller kicking in and out (the electronic noise) However it shouldn't be so loud that it is bothersome or can be heard over the rest of your components. So if you wanted to have it replaced you always have that option.
zlikr
If they give me a new one due to the fan noise, will the new one still have that electronic noise? Also something else, since i need to bring the PSU to my local store, i have an old corsair 400W, http://www.corsair.com/builder-series-cx400.html, which by the way is completely silent, unlike my new one.. :(, can i use it with my new computer? I am not using a discrete GPU, my CPU is i5 3570k, i have one SATA disk and a DVD-RW, i use the onboard HD 4000, on board lan, and on board sound, can a 400W power these components? And if lets say the system tries to draw more power than the PSU can handle, what will happen? Will there be a problem with my motherboard, CPU, etc? peanutz94
f they give me a new one due to the fan noise, will the new one still have that electronic noise? No it shouldn't. , i have an old corsair 400W, http://www.corsair.com/builder-series-cx400.html, which by the way is completely silent, unlike my new one.. :(, can i use it with my new computer? Sure, it should work just fine. And if lets say the system tries to draw more power than the PSU can handle, what will happen? The system would just shut down or you may experience any number of instability issues.. But you shouldn't see much more than 200w with that system and no discreet GPU. It won't hurt your components but with random shutdowns or hard shut downs you always have the risk of data loss.
