LED issue with a new H80i

The red LED just died on a relatively recent (purchased on 01/12/13) H80i.

Before I send it for RMA, does anyone know if the LED issue has been addressed in newer batches. I would hate to have to return the unit only to have the LED go out again in a few weeks (considering the cost of shipping back the unit to Corsair).

I'm really not impressed with the quality of this product so far. The first unit I ordered died within the 30 return period so I got a new one from the store. The new unit had clicking fans that needed to be replaced, and now this...

Hi,

I raised a case a week or so ago and was told to not bother with an RMA as the issue is still being worked on - so I guess it hasn't been fixed in the newer batches :(

They said as long as the device is cooling down the hardware, its not worth doing an RMA until the LED issue is fixed. I have an H80i btw.

Did Corsair themselves actually say (admit) this? I am quite surprised that they were forthcoming at all?! This is exactly what I have been talking about for quite some time now: that is that Corsair is never forthcoming with issues they are experiencing with a lot of their products, instead they always insist to RMA only to usually find that more than one replacement has the exact same issue. Why can't they just say "hey everyone, yes we have issues with the following product, apologies for inconveniences caused, we are working on the issue and will let you know when this is resolved and advise EXACTLY which batches are and aren't affected". I personally wouldn't mind trouble with products if they are 100% honest with me up front. A typical example was the fiasco with the faulty fan controllers of the H100s. There was s sticky that advised that only one specific batch was affected, yet I as well as many others had fan controller issues from more than 4 other supposed "unaffected" batches. This is the type of things that are kept from us the clients

do you read very many posts as i recall a number of occasions where ramguy has acknowledged issues with things and are in the process of correcting.

while some users are having issues with led's,fortunately its a cosmetic issue rather than a operating issue and the I series is new so some bugs are normal with new products.

Thank you for the information Royster86! Let's hope they are able to provide a fix soon!

This is what support said on my RMA ticket, I've edited for brevity:

The LED is a known issue and we are currently implementing a fix for it. If the cooler is doing its job cooling, i would advise that you hang onto it until we release the fix. Otherwise if you still want to get a RMA, we will be more than happy to approve it. Please let me know

<I asked around timelines, and whether it would be a hardware or software fix>

Unfortunately we do not have an exact date yet, but we are working on it everyday. So until i get a confirmation from the engineers, i wont be able to give you a definate answer. It will be a hardware fix.

Its going to be a hardware fix and its already in place. Availability is still unknown at this point. Though the LED is commonly reported, please keep in mind that this is not wide spread, so chances are still slim to get a replacement with a bad LED. Replacing it now via RMA or through your res seller will still have a good chance getting a perfectly working unit.

Thanks RAM GUY, considering what I've read on the forums, I think i'll wait. I'm assuming that there will be an announcement on the forums when the fix is available? As my device is cooling fine, I only want to RMA it when the fix is available in the new units.

I'd be interested to know what actually causes the issue, as LEDS are well known to having a low failure rate, yet this seems to be higher than expected for these units.

Many thanks -

Yes, once we know for sure, then we'll release an official statement.

RAM Guy, what is the current status with regards to the LED issues relating to the newer generation H80i/H100i kits? I stand to be corrected, but I have seen no official statement as mentioned yet?

they wont elaborate on dates for fixes/updates until AFTER their released, its standard policy.

I was told it was now available when I asked for an update on my RMA a couple of weeks ago.

I also phoned up and the person I spoke to said the LED issue was resolved (I asked again as otherwise I wouldn't have requested it unless it was fixed).

Because of that, I requested an advanced RMA and was sent a new unit which I've been using for about a week now with no issues.

Needless to say I will be back on here if I have any more LED issues in the coming months!

To be quit honest, even if fixes are already in production and distribution channels, I believe that they almost never announce availability or newer unaffected batches

The issue with the LED is two fold one being a failure of one of the colors which is easy to check by manually setting the the color and see if it changes to the right color if one color does not work then it will have to be replaced.

The other issue is a bug in the corsair Link software which will sometimes use a different color than what you have set in your profile. This is a software or firmware issue and we are working on this issue now and will be properly addressed with a future version of the Corsair Link Software and or a firmware update. However, the latest version of our software (Ver 2.4.4948) does seem to solve it for some users but not all.
