I am having the exact same issue with the exact same headset.

I am disappointed that this headset came with absolute no instructions, no tutorial to fine tune the settings, or anything. It took me several hours of adjusting settings and trying to get it to sound like I wasn't talking out of a tin can.

But back to the original problem, that very bright blinking blue light. Some times when I start my PC it stay on as a solid blue light, and other times it flashes very fast, like 5 times a second, like a strobe light. At night when I am in a dark room it is very distracting when I am trying to play a game and I have this constant blinking light. What is it for? What does it mean when it is solid, or blinking? After an extensive search online I still have yet to find my answer, so I am posting here in the hopes someone might know what it means, and if I can stop it from blinking.

Above is a photo of the headset. The main cord coming from the headset has the standard dual 3.5mm analog connectors, along with a in-line volume control and microphone mute switch.

The second cord allows you to plug the dual 3.5mm connectors into it, and plug the USB into your PC. This is the best way to hook it up, because it allows you to take advantage of the surround sound feature. The second cord also has a in-line control, with a microphone adjustment and yet another mic mute switch, and that annoying blue light that keeps blinking. The light is just below the small silver mute mic switch. Why does the second USB cord have another mic mute switch, since you already have one in the first cord coming from the headset? Makes no sense to me.

As I mentioned it would have been nice if this headset came with basic instructions or features, as no printed material came with it, other than warranty information. I have no idea what this blue light means, and why it is blinking fast, and glows steady at other times.

Can you change the playback to Stereo in Windows and surround to see if the light starts blinking again?

Have you tried Muting the Mic on the second cord with the USB and the one on the headset?

Disconnect the headset does it start blinking or go solid?

This isn't the best reply as you mentioned, no manuals means to try everything to see what causes it to stay solid.

I have tried changing settings back and forth from stereo to 5.1 Surround, muting the mic using both switches, playing with the equalizer settings, and everything else I can think of, but still have no idea why the light keeps blinking. I switched the USB connection to a different one, and still the light blinks. Then out of nowhere it will start to glow steady, and then back to the blinking.

It sure would be nice to know what is happening, and the purpose of this light. I can only assume something is causing it to blink and go steady, but hopefully someone from Corsair can enlighten me.

I'm having the same problem as well, running win 8. Tried connecting using USB and the analog connectors, mic sounds like i'm talking into a tin can and way too low of volume.

Went into the properties for the mic, tried adjusting the level, all that does is create a loud buzz and only slightly raises the volume of my mic to people i'm talking to.

Clicked on "Listen to this device" and I could barely hear myself. Also tested in in skype and mic was nearly usless as a recording device.

Restarted and updated my machine still no dice, checked the driver version and it was pretty old.

C-Media Inc.

Driver date 8/12/2010

Driver Version 7.12.8.2150

This is the USB driver my computer installed as the CD this headset came with apparently isn't supporting windows 8

Tried installing the drivers using compatibility mode for win 7, no dice.

If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear em.

EDIT: Yes, I've tried recording myself in sound recorder that didn't do anything but make a really low recording soundclip. No, the mic is not muted. Yes, the USB port is good and I've verified that. Yes, the switch for "ON/OFF" for the mic is switched to the "on" position. Yes, I've tried raising the levels and volumes and all it does is amplify really bad sound recording.

We are looking into issues with the H5 and Windows 8.

Tax and Chef: Can I update your profile so I can see what OS and hardware you're using as well?

As for blinking, I answered it above but I'll paste it here if you missed it:

"I've tested the USB dongle and I figured it out. The LED should stay solid when there is no activity for audio, and it will blink when there is."

Any luck? I just bought this headset and I'm really disappointed by the microphone. It sounds horrible, is there any fix to this?
