VioletGiant
Dear users, Yesterday my new Corsair H100i arrived, and ofcouse I installed it right away using the quick start guide since it is the first time I have a CPU water cooler. The installation went quite smoothly because I had the help of a friend. I am using the Cooler in combination with: Fans: 2X Corsair SP120 Quite Edition (PUSH) Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77x-D3H CPU: Inter Core i5 3570k @ 3.8GHz And now to the reason I have created this thread. My idle temps are about 30C And when running Prime95 About 70-75C I think this is realy hot, and someone suggested a chipset cooler cause that would solve the problem. and on another note, the pump makes quite a lot of noise is this reasonable? I hope you guys can help me!! DWreck
For 3.8 Ghz I think its a little high for the Idle Temps. But the Prime 95 Temps are way to high. I have an i7-3770k which is the same just with HTing and I'm OCed to 4.5 Ghz. My Idle temps are 40, and Prime 95 is 60, but a few hours later it goes to 65 then never exceeds that. Keep in mind, I run mine with the Fans Off until it his 50. Keeps my PC quite unless I'm loading it then they turn on with a custom fan curve. Were you running it at Max Fan Speed? Also though, 75 isn't really hot. Its just the fact that it shouldn't be that high. The CPU can go to 105. Here's what I need to look at. What Motherboard do you have? Also please if you can take a screenshot or a picture of your Bios settings? One thing I do know right now is that you don't need 1.27 Volts to get a 300 Mhz OC. Are you Voltage Settings on Auto? Off topic but I can actually run Prime 95 without any fans on for a few hours. My Temps sky rocket to 90 then slowly head up to 95-97 without any fans. But I cant do it forever because it will keep climbing since there aren't any fans to cool the fins down, but I would never do anything to stress my CPU like Prime 95 does, forget even a few hours. VioletGiant
The fans are supposed to run at 1450 rpm's but the keep running at 1250 and the corsair link software won't let me change them BTW: I have hand tightened the screws on the CPU block, i have seen in other forums that may be the problem? Should I put a little more pressure on the cpu?

Should I put a little more pressure on the cpu? You don't need to apply enough pressure to the point where you need a screwdriver. But as long as its nice and firm then you should be fine. The RPM on the SP120's are okay. That is not the problem. I edited my Post a bit, could you please review it again and answer those questions too. VioletGiant
Dear DWreck, My Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77x-D3H and some pictures of my biosm didn't exactly know what to look for... http://s24.postimg.org/bq4dhy1sl/20130425_143116.jpg http://s24.postimg.org/5qgmeah05/20130425_143131.jpg http://s12.postimg.org/o5ufoq371/20130425_143153.jpg
DWreck
Well one problem is you have your Voltage on "Auto", which is a bad thing. But when we fix that here in a min it doesn't mean the overall temp will go down a lot, but it will help. Okay, I see that in your 2rd Picture your CPU Clock Ratio is 34? How exactly did you get 3.8Ghz. Did you increase your Bus? I recommend you reset you Bios to default and do the following: Where it says your "CPU Clock Ratio" change that to 38 making your Clock 3.8 Ghz. Now Make your CPU Vcore 1.250V. This should be plenty for now. If you can see any settings for "Load Line Calibration" then make that "High", if not don't worry about it for now. If you would like to disable the Special Features like C1E, Speedstep, ect... then that's you choice, same as the RAM Settings. After you boot up then run Prime 95 for 30-60 mins on "Blend" and Only Blend, and keep an eye on your Temps and your CPU Voltage. Does Prime 95 stop one or more of your Cores, if so what is the Error. Does you Voltage go much higher then 1.250V's? Where your Temps any different (Its a good thing if they weren't and even better if they were).

Bryman
Did you clean off old thermal paste on chip before putting on the h100i?
DWreck
Did you clean off old thermal paste on chip before putting on the h100i? Yes I would also like to know this when he gets back. That could also be another issue as well.
Bryman
Ya I didn't and I think my temps are about 10C hotter due to that So that might be your cause if you didnt
VioletGiant
Not gone yet :P I Did using: ArcticSilver ArtiClean When I went from stock intel cooler to Coolermaster v8 I did exaxtly the same Regards, Jim Dahmen

Because if your saying what I thing your saying then you PC should be Dead :p:. Also ArticSliver 5 isn't the best on the market but it sure is good, so that shouldn't be the problem. Though I also think just lowering the Voltage won't solve the issue either, but like I said it will help.
VioletGiant
I cleaned it with arcticlean and then i used the stock thermal compound, that was on the cpu block i could change it to arctic silver but I would imagine corsair would provide a good compound

I would assume the biggest part is because the Squre of Paste on the Waterblock is Thick and A Lot, which is a Bad Thing. TIM should be a Small Amount and Thin. Obviously though there is such a thing is Too Small and Too Thin but most people don't screw that up they just use to much. So I suggest you go ahead and change the TIM with AS5 or whatever you want along with doing the Bios Guide I talked about and see what happens. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 1, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 1, 2013 And now to the reason I have created this thread. My idle temps are about 30C And when running Prime95 About 70-75C Your idle is good bit a bit high on load, probably because of the fan only running at 1200rpm which is expected when you have an SP120 connected to an H100i. Keep in mind that SP120s (3pin) are not optimized for Corsair Link. You will not be able to change its speed nor it will rev up/down when coolant changes temperature. I don't think that 1200rpm is enough to cool down the coolant when you put your system under 100% load. thus your temp is reaching 70°C. I would suggest that you try using the stock cooler and see if that makes a difference at all.
