Capt Proton
I bought two Nova series refurbished 60GB drives from NewEgg. I installed Windows 7 on the first one, and it worked for a bit, however, on a start up it just failed to boot, and the colored LEDs you can see inside were frozen on red, no green. I paid to submit that one to NewEgg (.ca) for RMA. I did a fresh install on the second. It has been very troublesome. Extremely slow response, takes a very long time to log off and shut down. Benchmark tests are not too bad (ATTO and AS SSD) however, real world performance is just awful. The only real posts I have found are the ones I should have read before I purchased, because I would not have. I don't want an RMA, as the problems seem to be universal, and no firmware update that would give me hope of a fix. Willing to pay a little extra to get a different drive. Suggestions for resolution please.
Capt Proton
Somebody from Corsair really needs to address this travesty.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 22, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 22, 2013 I would use Parted Magic and secure erase the drive then do the install again and to be sure if you have another HDD able to Boot windows on this system I would use ATTO after the secure erase and test its performance. Capt Proton
I would use Parted Magic and secure erase the drive then do the install again and to be sure if you have another HDD able to Boot windows on this system I would use ATTO after the secure erase and test its performance. Done and done. As all, and I mean all posts tell, ATTO is not the problem. It doesn't bench too poorly with that. It does bench really poorly in AS SSD. The true tale is in real life, with over one minute to boot with a minimal install, waiting for up to two minutes for the installer to appear after double clicking it, 4 minutes to log off. Two days trying to do the Windows 7 updates, which ultimately failed. I did a back up with Acronis TI, restored to one of my refurbed Corsair Force 120GB SSD. Wow. Great response, fast booting, almost instant file and application opening. Same story on both drives I bought. Same story for dozens of people that actually tried getting help on this forum. I did not find a single case of anyone reporting the issues resolved. Other than your stock, and very old, secure erase and reinstall yada, yada, yada, no help from Corsair for anyone. I, and I am sure others still out there with these paper weights, am looking for Corsair to step up, admit there is a problem, and actually do something to try and resolve it, like offer credit in the amount paid for the bricks, I mean drives, for another product. From what I have seen, there is not one case where an RMA actually fixed anything. These drives appear to be nothing but junk.
Capt Proton
NewwEgg Rocks. They have agreed to a no restocking charge refund for these items, even though the warranty was for replacement other. I sent them a link to all of the threads on this site about how terrible these drives are, and that Corsair had no answers. They agreed with me and gave me back my money. I really hope they actually follow through and send Corsair their concerns with this product and the lack of integrity that seems to be the norm when it comes to these drives. Why has Corsair not stepped up and admitted there is a problem? Can they not see that addressing concerns such as this will win them customer loyalty and be good for business in the long term? I hope they can. I am not done with this, not by a long shot. whenever I can, I am going to pass on what I have learned so other do not make the same mistake. For those that read this before the mods take it down, pass it on.
Wired
... Corsair had no answers.1 response to a thread does not equate to "no answers". You have to give them a chance man! Even if the drive is a dud, they'd RMA it for you within the refurb warranty period. For those that read this before the mods take it downWe the staff (emps and non-emps alike) don't take down posts just because it's not all smiley faces and shiny rainbows. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 22, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 22, 2013 I am sorry that did not work for you but they are not as fast as the Force series drives. And I am sorry you are not happy with them but we would only be able tom replace them directly, you might speak with the reseller and see what their return policy is since you are clearly not happy with the drives. Capt Proton
As I relate iin my last post, Newegg has stepped forward. "not as fast as the Force series" How about not as fast as a mechanical hard drive? and don't throw ATTO Bench results in my face. I, and many others on this very forum, concede that bench results are not bad. Real life results, however, are visibly abysmal. long, long waits for a reaction after double clicking a shortcut or an application's .exe file. By long, I am talking about 30 seconds to over two minutes. No way is that an example of a drive that "not as fast". It is a sign of a flawed product. I should have been doubly suspicious of a product for which the manufacturer refurbished quantities are large enough to be listed for sale, however, I bought refurbished Force 3 devices and they were very good, so I trusted Corsair. Should have done my homework more thoroughly. You alos should look at AS SSD results. Overall score 153?
