PSU fan/RMA problems

Firstly, the problem itself:

Recently my Corsair TX750 v2 has been incredibly noisy. As soon as it powers up, the fan runs at what I assume must be 100% speed, and doesn't slow down. This happens regardless of load or temperature. Even with the paperclip test this happens.

This means the PSU is by far the noisiest component, despite having 4 case fans it is the only one audible with the case shut. The PSU used to be silent.

I requested an RMA and got one, except now I realise the shipping cost from UK to Holland is £40.00, which is half the cost of a brand new PSU! This has essentially rendered the 5 year warranty worthless IMO.

Is there any possibility of Corsair paying for shipping both ways? After all I bought from Corsair because they are supposed to be reliable, and the 5 year warranty was reassuring... Having to pay £40 to RMA a faulty product (which only lasted 14 months) is pretty ridiculous.

...I just read somewhere that if it's under a year old shipping is free?

Also that if you ask customer service for an 'Advanced RMA' it's free also...dunno if that applies to the UK though...maybe RAMGUY can shed some light on our options...

I'm going to wait for his advice before I go through any returns process with customer service...

No, if the unit is less than 30 days old or it is a second RMA they will pick up the shipping charges. Otherwise you are responible for shipping to Corsair and they will pay to ship the new one back.

There is no additional charge for an advanced RMA. However you will need to call them to have this arranged and they will put a hold on your credit card for the amount of the PSU until the new unit is returned. But it will not actually be charged unless you fail to return it in the specified time frame.
