H100i SP120 AF120

First of all I need to apologize about starting a new thread about something that have already been discussed, but from the threads that I read I just got confused.

I have already started a thread about replacing the fans in an 600T but probably was the wrong part of the forum to ask about it.

I have an Graphite 600T with an Corsair Hydro H100i and using the Corsair Link software.

So all the fans are connected to the H100i.

I'm thinking abbout changing both the case fan on the back and the stock fans of H100i.

As I understood after the threads that I read, for the case fan I have to go with an AF120 fan?

And for the H100i that I should go either for the SP120 Performance Edition or for the SP120 Quiet Edition but the PWM ones?

And If I'm planning to change the fans of the H100i I should upgrade the firmware of the H100i to 1.0.5, even if it is not recommended to change the stock fans, if I still want to use Corsair Link with the new fans.

Did I got everything right?

Any recommendations and help are welcome :)

if things are working correctly--dont upgrade firmware

upgrades are designed to help users with specific problems that you may not have.

Actually right now I don't have any problems but as I said I'm planning to replace the stock fans, and as I understood from the posts that I read in the forum fw 1.0.5 will work better with the SP120. But I had already in mind to first install the fans and see if everything works good and if not probably to upgrade to the latest fw.

But still I don't know which fans should I buy like I said in my first post.

AF120 for the case?

And SP120 Quiet Edition or SP120 Quiet Edition PWM for the H100i?

SP120's will NOT work correctly on the H100i.

Only way to even get some control over them is to buy high performance edition and use the included resistors. Then they will max out at 1600 rpm and be slow to decelerate.

There are some new pwm versions listed on newegg right now, but I don't know if they will work with the h100i.

Now that you are saying that I read in a thread that the SP120 Quiet Edition are not compatible with the H100i but the High Performance with the resistors are working with the H100i but not 100% compatible either.

If I'm not wrong in the same thred there were saying that the SP120 Quiet Edition PWM should work fine.

I have no idea about the quiet editions, but can comment on the performance editions as I was the first one to post my results of semi controllability with the included resistors.

At 1600rpm they are still fairly quiet. I figure just slightly louder than the quiet editions at full blast.

If you have to use a resistor on the quiet SP120 3 pin fans they might max out at 1000 rpm or so which wile being quiet would not cool as well as a faster spinning fan.

I posted a thread on this forum asking if the new PWM versions of the SP120 performance or quiet editions were compatible with the H100i, but as of yet Corsair have not responded. It would be nice if they are though, so that way you wouldn't have to deal with resistors, limited speed, or slow response.

Well I did a quick scan reading again in some of the threads related to H100i and RAM GUY in one of them is saying that the latest fw should be compatible with the most of the PWM fans, but unfortunately that they don't have a list with compatible PWM fans. But shouldn't at least Corsair should know if their PWM fans are compatible with their Hydro Series?

Then I also read that there is 2 kind of stock FANS, the ones with the 3 pins and the PWM ones. So if someone receive the H100i with the 3 pin fans can RMA to get the PWM ones.

So maybe I should try with the PWM that are supposed to follow with the H100i in the beginning and then go for the SP120 PWM if it not working well.

It seems that for the case fans I will go for an AF120 quiet edition.

But a response from Corsair would be great about the RMA option and about the SP120 PWM compatibility.

it is VERY unlikely that you will receive one with 3 pin fans and ONLY if you buy it from somewhere besides the corsair site...and they havnt tested the other fans themselves which is why they cant verify compatibility

I live in Sweden so buying from Corsairs website it is not an option for me (or at least I think so). So my H100i is from a local shop and if I remember well I have the 3 pin fans, but I have to open my case to double check it.

As long that they haven't tested themselves. I understand that they cannot test all the different PWM fans out in the market, but their fans should be tested. After all they have to provide a kind of support for their products.

just get some PWM fans for free contact corsair and get an RMA you dont have to return anything

Yes it seems that I'm going to RMA and get the PWM fans. But it would be nice to know if the SP120 PWM are compatible too.

And something that I haven't thought about at all is that even the case fans are going to be connected to the H100i, so them should be compatible too.

So it would be nice to know if the AF120 Quiet Edition and AF120 Performance Edition are compatible.

For those that are interesting about some testing with fans that work with H100i/H80i there is a thread in a Swedish forum with people testing the compatibility of the fans. Unfortunately the most of the people that are testing they are not saying the version of the fw but most probably the most of them are on 1.0.4

For those that they can read Swedish here is the link: http://www.sweclockers.com/forum/2-kylning-och-overklockning-av-processorer/1193042-kompatibla-flaktar-corsair-h100i-h80i/

and for those that they can't there is always google translate :)

Still no answer from the Corsair people about the compatibility of their PWM fans or the AF120.

BTW anyone that have connected a 200mm fan and can be controlled from the link software?

If you have a H80i or H100i and would like to change out the stock fans for our SP series fans you should get the PWM versions that we just released. They will work with version 1.04 or 1.05, but you should upgrade to 1.05 for best user experience. With 1.04 and the PWM fans there is a chance that at the lowest settings the fans can stall out on the low end (RPM wise). This will cause the fans to go full blast again as the fan state resets itself. With 1.05 the variation of the fan speed (10% on almost every fan) has been taken into account so that it will not go below the stall threshold.

What about the AF Series. Any chance that they are compatible? Or should I go for some other PWM case fans?

PWM SP120 fans are going to be compatible and optimized for Corsair Link,http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=37371. AF Series will just run at max rpm and you will not be able to control them via C Link.

We do not know what other PWM fans are compatible with our cooler, as we do not test them for compatibility. Although, some users have tried some of the popular PWM fans and they claim that they are compatible in terms of rpm control but again, we cannot guarantee it for sure, because we didn't qualify any of them.
