if you consider the amount of psu Corsair sells there is going to be failure, and this is tech support forum so you will always see more posters with issues then poster saying how great their product is working. I have a AX1200 running on 2 years now with not one issue, I have built 7 computers for friends and family over the last 3 years and I install a Corsair psu in each system I built. in those systems I installed psu from the HX and AX line and not one issue on those either. so I would say yes, if you are considering a Corsair psu get one. if by chance you have a issue with one, Corsair has the best customer service and warranty replacement out of any company I have worked with. I only had one RMA with Corsair for a damaged front bezel on a case I bought from them and they had a new replacement part too my house in 3 days. and the damaged part was caused by shipping not by Corsair manufacturing.

well, considering the above, I'm leaning toward the 850. one thing about it, tho... can it take 2x6 pin gfx cards. got a 7870, which has 2 6 pin connectors, and wouldn't mind a second to xfire

It sure can! The 7870's depending onthe model will only use 190 watts at full load. You would have plenty of power for another card if you choose to.

I've had an AX850 for two and a half years now. A few weeks ago there was a surge in our building. My PSU cut off and would not restart for about ten minutes. Two other people in my building were not so lucky.

For one, only his PSU died, the other one lost not only his PSU, but his motherboard fried as well. Needless to say they were cheap PSUs that were supposedly surge protected.
