Voyager Air & Wifi

I have purchased the 1GB version of the V.A and to be honest right now its a MAJOR disappointment.

I have found a few problems with this drive but I'm only going to mention the ones that are really bugs the **** out of me.

Why can this drive NOT connect to an hidden SSID via its passthru feature? and why do i have to constantly enter the password every time i disconnect and want to reconnect to the drive via WiFi?

With all due respects Corsair what i have mentioned above are basic WiFi features and for the money you charge for the drive you would expect such basic features to be implemented.

Please be telling me you plan to post a firmware ASAP to address these problems.

Regards

I will have to check into this and get back with you on it.

That's the point of a password. This is a security feature because allowing pass thru with no password can create a security vulnerability as your network would be open. If you don't wish to enter a password, disable the password feature.

Hello Yellowbeard.

I don't believe you understood what I was trying to say here.

When you connect to the V.A via WiFi your access key should be stored on the device right? yes it should. passwords would be saved to the device in the same way as if you were connecting to a router. Well if I connect to the V.A then switch to my router when I switch back I have to re-enter to password key again. Basically the key is not being stored on the device.

Thank you for the response.

I got a good few more little tedious things I'd like to point out about this drive and its app. But please lets get these sorted first as these are the one that bugs me the most.

Tedious is fine by us. Obviously, this is an entirely new product arena for us and we want to refine and improve the Voyager Air as much as possible.

Based on my usage and speaking with the software eng, your drive SHOULD in fact be remembering your password. Can you provide a bit more specific data on your network setup and your usage when you have this password issue?

Also, at this time, the VA cannot be logged into a network with SSID hidden. We have some changes in the works that should address but I do not have a timeline for them.

I experienced something very similar when I first started using my Voyager Air. I'm not really sure what my have transpired, and am quite honestly writing it off to a case of pilot error. I initially had to enter both the Voyager Air password, as well as the password of the network that I was passing through to each time I connected, and quite honestly I was wondering why this device would not remember the passwords. I wish I could remember what I did (other than cheating and reading some of the documentation,) but after I got things settled, the Voyager Air does indeed remember both it's own password and that of the networks that I pass through to.

Since the pass through settings currently currently list the available networks without an option to manually enter a network name, it would not seem currently possible to connect to a hidden SSID. As for automatically connecting to available networks (e.g. known or unsecured SSIDs), I'm not so sure that is a feature that I'd like to have on a portable device.

  • 3 weeks later...

I would want to automatically connect to an external facing wifi network. I bought the drive to use when I am in hotels and also at home. Having to manually connect it every time I switch on is a pain.

At least give us an option in settings to automate it.

Alan

[but see my other post on it not actually working.]
