PEIBob
I am building a new system, using the ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Mobo and the CORSAIR Pro Series AX850 Gold PSU. While the 24 to 24 pin cable provided worked without difficulty, I ran into an interesting problem with the 8 pin ATX 12V connection. In the package, I was provided with 2 cables for 8 pin connection, either of which should have worked. However, both have a 4 + 4 (split) pin connectors on the mobo side of the cable and neither will fit into the 8 pin 12V connector on the mobo. One of the 4-pin connectors will, but the other 4 pin will not (unlike in the video demo regarding installation of the modular cables). Am I missing something? Is there a known incompatibility issue with the mobo? Is it possible that Corsair used the wrong configuration on the 4+4 slit cables. Note that each of the connectors on the 4 + 4 pin split are not identical to each other.:(: Insight will help as I have spent a fair amount trying to put together a worthy gaming machine, using a significant amount of CORSAIR product (case, liquid cooler, PSU, RAM, etc) due to their reputation. OneGun
I have the same exact motherboard and PSU.I have a cooler master storm stryker full tower case and it came with a extension so i used that and i have no problems..Maybe you can find an extension somewhere. As i have no idea if it would work on my setup cause i never tried cause the cable wouldn't reach..Let me know if i can help in any way.You might be able to get help here also.. http://www.overclock.net/t/1246595/official-asus-sabertooth-z77-owners-thread-club
PEIBob
Thanks OneGun. Strangely, they seem to have changed the square/rounded plastic cable plugs in the AX series 8 pin connectors, making them incompatible with the 8 pin slot on this, current and popular mobo. Corsair has yet to respond, but I checked with others with the same PSU and their plugs are identical to mine. Not certain why they would do that, but given that most retailers recommend that PSU with that motherboard, someone, either ASUS or Corsair (suggest the latter given they changed their configuration), should step up. peanutz94
Thanks OneGun. Strangely, they seem to have changed the square/rounded plastic cable plugs in the AX series 8 pin connectors, making them incompatible with the 8 pin slot on this, current and popular mobo They are compatible. The rounded plugs will fit into the square holes for the 8pin EPS. PSU have to adhere to ATX specs the same as the MB do. There is no compatibility issues as far as connectors go on any of Corsair PSU's with any current MB's. It should fit! If you can post pics of your issue, it would help us get a better idea. Speed
IOW, in these connectors, both cable and motherboard header: A round peg will fit into a square hole. They don't have to match.A square peg wont fit into a round hole. They do have to match. This is done for compatibility reasons across a wide range of specifications. If it goes in smoothly, without undue force, it fits.Check for the keeper latch on one side of the header and plug.Make sure you aren't using PCI-e cables for this. PEIBob
Well, thank you folks. My mismatch cabling concerns was indeed based upon the visual differences of the slots. I build a system every 4 to 5 years and each time I am very concerned about forcing things into places that they are not supposed to go, ergo my hesitation regarding the square versus round slotting. Your convincing points made me push through my concerns and woohoo, a round peg does indeed fit into a square hole. It slotted nicely, contrary to my concerns. Again thanks.
