GA-Z77-D3H compatibility with CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10

Hi,

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard, i7 3770, and CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10 (2 8GB modules).

I was experiencing some random lockups as well as CRC check failures so decided to run memtest. Memtest errors on both DIMMS, both individually in single channel mode and with both inserted running dual channel.

This happens at 1333, 1600, and 1866 (with both manual settings of 10-11-10-30, 2T, 1.5v as well as XMP). I've flashed newest BIOS, tried the modules in all DIMM sockets, cleared CMOS battery, removed graphics card and run off integrated, all with same results.

Is this RAM compatible with this motherboard or is it likely that both DIMMs are faulty?

Thanks in advance!

The memory is indeed compatible. However seeing as both sticks are producing errors even at 1333mhz that would suggest some other issue. A bad Mb possibly or even CPU.

If it's possible, do you have a friend or family member that you could test the memory in another system?

It's pretty unlikely that both modules would produce the same results and failures.

Thanks for the reply. I can ask around to see if anyone has a system that I can check on (most friends/family are now desktop).

I checked the CPU pins and they are all fine. I'll try with some other RAM I guess and then start narrowing it down to CPU and motherboard if new RAM doesn't fix it.

I just want to make sure that I'm not doing anything stupid - it SHOULD pass at with cleared CMOS, newest BIOS, load setup defaults, and leaving it at 1333, 9-9-9-24, 1.5v, right?

Correct! It should pass at the XMP specs too! And if both modules are failing then it would indicate some other issue. It's rare to get one bad module out of a kit, but to get two of them is just about unheard of but does happen every once in a blue moon.

If you want to swap the memory to be sure , that should not be a problem and is the easiest to change. But again if a second kit does the same thing it would probably be board related.

Thanks peanutz. I got ahold of 2 other DDR modules from a different brand (and testing at 1600mhz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5v) and am currently running memtest. May be speaking too soon, but no errors so far at 30 mins (errors were popping up constantly with the Corsair Vengeance ones).

So looks like I got stuck with 2 bad modules - rare like you said, but can happen

You just never know how they were treated during shipping or what they were subjected to. But since the other kit is passing with no issues, I would have that set replaced.
