800D/650D questions

I'm not 100 percent sure if this is the correct place for this so if it is not then I apologize. I'm a big fan of the Corsair Obsidian series specifically the 800D. I'm currently looking for a new case at this point and Im considering between the 650D and the 800D. My concern is that these two cases supposedly are poor in regards to air cooling. I'm using a corsair hydro 50 to cool my CPU currently and I do not overclock at all. If I dont overclock or onmly mildly overclock and also replace all the fans in the 800D is it still a poor air cooling case? How about in regards to the 650d? Thank you for any input or recommendations.

I own both cases and ran the H50 cooler in the 800D with good results. I have since changed to the H100i with excellent results. I am running an H80i in the 650D and to be honest the results are not as good as I expected. The 650D is adequate but not great. If cooling is the main factor and size is not a problem go with the 800D. I did not have room for another 800D. Don't get me wrong the 650D is a good case and cooling is adequate but does not cool as good as the 800D. I am not running stock fans on the 800D.

no matter what case I end up getting I am replacing all the stock fans. The noise of the fans never really bothers me as I run this system through my 7.1 surround sound so all pc noise is basically drowned out when I play music or game, where i used headphones. I was mostly thinking of goign with the 650D due to the smaller form factor but I also like the largeness of the case I am using now and wanted something similar. Also I was considering possibly doing a liquid cooled system as I have never done one before and was looking for a challenge on my next build.

Again my main concern was how a lot of people are saying how poor the ability to air cool in the systems are. I don't overclock my cpu and only mildly overclock my gpu so again I know my requirements are less than what others have. I planned on outfitting the whole case with as many fans as it could hold, and replacing the stock ones it came with.

From your comments I think it would be better for you to go with the 800D. It is easier to work with and has more room to add thing. The 650D is a nice case but if you are used to a big case I would go with the 800D. I just did not have room for a 2nd 800D. I have never had a problem with air cooling on the 800D. I started with a standard air cooler, then went to the H50, and then the H100i. I have only had the 650D about a month and will try to optimize it some more. The main problem I have with cooling on it is the NB and SB temps are a little high. Appears to be some dead air spots that I need work on. The mesh side would probably help but I prefer the clear side.

Anyway that is my .02$ worth.

Well, I don't have an 800D to do a direct comparison, only two Antec P180s, but the 650D is BIG. I'm not having any issues with cooling with the 200mm front intake, rear 120mm intake and H100i exhaust out the top. Mildly overclocked i7-3930K on an ASUS P9X79 Deluxe, GTX670, AX1200i PSU, Samsung 256GB SSD, two WD 2TB Blacks (so far). I like it. Actually can't imagine the 800D being significantly better for the increased size.

The big difference is that you have a H100i mounted in the top and a rear intake fan. I really believe that is the reason you are having better results. I will eventually put a H100i in mine but I just bought the H80i and will use it for a while. I think the biggest difference is that the H100i allows you to put in a rear intake fan that blows on the MB. The H80i will not mount in the top of the 650D easily and I didn't want to modify the case. When I changed out the H50 on the 800D and replaced it with a intake fan in the rear and the H100i exhausting out the top I really saw a big difference in MB, NB, and SB temp. If you think the 650D is BIG you would think the 800D is HUGE:biggrin:

Yeah, that is why I'm glad I didn't get one. Once I got the 650D out of the shipping box and up onto the counter to begin the build, I realized just how big it is. Dimensions are one thing, experiencing it is another.

i settled for the 550d and heat is no problem at all and im running 11 drives along with the other usual stuff. of course one cooling factor is im using 7 stock h100 fans for the case with 4 others for the components

corsair puts alot of thought in all of their cases

Most people who seem to have issues with the cooling are people who are overclocking and using stock fans. Again this is something I have no intention of doing. I'm going to replace every fan in the case as I dont really mind noise. I'm not looking for a quiet case as long as it doesn't sound like a jet engine which my old case did...but then again I never replaced the fans in it either (oh the mistakes of youth) I will be happy as I game with a headset and run my music through my surround sound and since I don't overclock I'm not gonna be generating excessive heat.
