Krunchy
Six or seven months ago, I had problems with my CX600 making a grinding noise. I sent it in for RMA and have been happy with the replacement unit up to now. It seems the fan is now off balance which causes it to make an annoying clicking noise that is audible through my closed-style headphones. I heard from a friend that Corsair covers the shipping costs for the second RMA.
Speed
Are the blades clean? No matter the filter, my fan blades build up dust over time. For efficiency alone, I clean them periodically.
Krunchy
I can't see that any dust has accumulated on the blades, but I'll blow it out once I get a chance.
Speed
Most of it will be on the pressure side of the blades, which is on the inside of the enclosure. Opening it will break the warranty seal but if it's out of warranty, no problem there. Just make sure it's unplugged and you are grounded and be careful with the components. Blowing it off works to some extent but using a small artist's paintbrush clears it all off.
Krunchy
Ok, I blew all the (visible) dust off. It still makes the noise. Anything else I should try?
Speed
Well, ball bearings or not, I periodically add instrument oil to the fan bearings. You do this by carefully peeling back the sticker on the spider. That will reveal a small disc covering the bearing cavity. Don't take the sticker all the way off, just far enough to open the cavity. If you have a one-drop oiler (looks like a hypodermic needle but with a small bottle attached) put about 6 drops in there and manually turn the blade while oscillating it along the shaft axis to get the oil to move into the bearing. Rotation should become smooth and quiet. I then add a couple more drops to ensure some longevity, replace the disc and seal the sticker back down. Krunchy
I'm trying to stay away from anything that would void my warranty, as I'm unsure whether or not it is still under warranty. I sent it in for RMA 6 or 7 months ago, when I had owned it for about 11 months. Was the 1 year warranty renewed when I received my replacement unit from Corsair? peanutz94
The CX series ha a three year warranty . Your warranty is covered from the original purchase date only so it would not have been renewed, but you can still RMA it for another unit. Please use the link on the left to request an RMA. Let CS know that you recently RMA'd before and they may be able to help you with shipping costs. Well, ball bearings or not, I periodically add instrument oil to the fan bearings. Speed
This will also void the warranty on the PSU too. Yeah. That's why I stated that earlier: Opening it will break the warranty seal but if it's out of warranty, no problem there.
Krunchy
I've decided I'm gonna submit an RMA request tomorrow. I would do it today but I don't have access to a computer and I don't feel like filling out all the required information using my phone
Krunchy
I submitted my RMA request on April 9th at 5pm EST. The email claimed it would be responded to within 8 business hours. It has now been 2 (and a half) business days without response.
