DDR3 XMS3 1600mhz RAM

My first post on this forum in a last chance hope that somebody can help me with my new Corsair RAM purchased on Friday!

I have 2 sticks of XMS3 DDR3 4GB RAM (1600mhz).

When i initially installed into my pc the Windows screen appeared and then the blue screen of death appeared.

If i removed 1 bank of the XMS3 RAM ie reduce the ram total ffrom 8GB to 4GB the PC starts fine.

After playing around all weekend with various settings in BIOS ensuring the mapping was enabled etc and by putting another set of old 2GB RAMS (4GB Total) into the first channel and then the 2 new Corsair RAM modules into the second channell (8GB Total) to make 12 GB RAM i get the pc to fire up.

However, when the computer is asked to think about something like load a game, the blue screen of death appears again.

Now i know my motherboard accepts 16GB max memory (4 slots of 4GB RAM) but one thing i think might cause the issue is the RAM speed.

My Motherboard states max 1333mhz, and the Corsair are 1600mhz.

But.... i was advised this would not be an issue as the pc would adjust the Corsair RAM back down to 1333mhz.

Any thoughts before i give up, very frustrating.

Regards

Simon

I have 2 sticks of XMS3 DDR3 4GB RAM (1600mhz).

Were these bought as single sticks or did both sticks come out of one single package?

If they are just single sticks instead of a matched 8 gig kit, that could very well be the issue.

Have you ever updated the BIOS for your MB.? What is the exact model of your MB?

Hi,

thanks for the reply to my post.

I originally purchased an 8GB stick, but then realised my MB only accepted 4GB max per slot.

So i got the 2 sticks separate not as a pack.

They both work ok as i have tested one at a time in each slot i.e. 4GB and both work fine.

My MB is a FoxConn P55A.

Have not updated any BIOS yet.

Thgis is more than likely your issue then. It is very oimportant with newer MB to use matched memory. If at all possible i would return them for a matched 8 gig kit instead of two single sticks. Corsair does not suggest or support mixing memory(even if they are two of the same exact part number)

There is just no way they can guarantee correct operation or stability when you try to use two random modules.

I understand what you are saying but the shop i purchased the sticks from will not accept the items as they are open and have been used !

They have tested the memory and say they are both fine and have pointed me in the direction of the speeds do not work with my MB.

I have upgraded memory in all of my pc's before without any issues, these Corsair sticks are causing me a headache. I know its not Corsair, but i cannot believe there isnt a sollution to this issue.

I am running W7 Home Premium by the way.

as Peanutz pointed out, combining ram is not supported, suggested or recommended for reasons like this.

also the ram is backwards compatible to 1333 if needed.

you can try to call customer service and see if they will RMA the 2 sticks to get a matched pair back. even if that happens though you still are cautioned about mixing them with any other ram on the same board.

I have removed and re-loaded Foz Live Update and this time i get an available BIOS update, but when i go to install, the update fails in Live Update because of an error.

Maybe if i could update the BIOS my RAM may work.

Am i doing something wrong ?

Final post from me on this one.

Really annoying.....

I could not get the update of the BIOS to work and it was bit over my head so I took it to a local PC shop to sort the problem.

They told me it needed a reload of windows, so after 3 hours labour and a £115 bill my windows was reloaded and I was told that all should be okay.

Got home started reloading games and blue screen of death again !

I have now taken the Corsair RAM out and put the old RAM back in and everything runs okay.

My question is, the retailer I purchased this ram from was Maplin and they will not refund or exchange hardware.

So now I figure my only option is to see if Corsair will exchange for me for the 1333mhz version of the same RAM.

Does anybody know if this is possible and is there a UK address to deal with ?

Regards

The sticks are backwards compatible and will also run at 1333mhz or even 1066 if you need to.

What you need is a matched set since your two indivdual sticks don't like each other. The issue is that there is nothing technically "wrong" with the memory . So i don't know if they will be able to exchange them or not.

The best you could do is fill out an RMA request and ask them.

There is only one contact number and that would be here in the states, But there are three RMA hubs around the world. I believe the Netherlands would be the one you would need to send your sticks to and where they would come from. But your actual RMA would be set up here in the states.
