suarezs
Having an issue with my new power supply. My mother board only needs two connections. 24 pin connector 4 pin connector For the four pin connector I split the available eight pin connector. The issue: when I press the power button the fans spin for one second and then shuts down. Quick specs for my machine can be viewed here: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12792_na/12792_na.PDF Could this be a bad power supply? Any help would be greatly appreciated. peanutz94
I don't believe the PSU is bad. You could run the "Brief functionality test" found in the stickys to start the PSU outside of your computer. A lot of OEM system like HP,DELL ect use proprietary PSU's. making it pretty hard to upgrade a store bought system. If the PSU fires up with the paperclip method then you would need to get the PSU directly from HP in this case.
suarezs
Yes I did the paper clip test and the power supply works fine. I was afraid I might get the response you gave me. I guess we will have to buy the reset of the parts we need and build a pc from scratch. Thanks for the info.
cyberlocc
you dont have another computer than you can use to check it on while peanuts is correct dell did do that they haven't in a long time to my knowledge and looking at your link it seems to be a regular psu and again to my knowledge the only company that did the wire flip was dell, hp never did things like that and if it was a properitary psu issue it wouldnt do what your describing check all the connections and try your old psu again.
