svarvakis
I have a Corsair 620HX for quite some time now, 3 years or possibly more. Lately it has been making a very loud noise whenever it's turned on at the switch in the back. It sounds like a loud bang.. more like a snap, or the crack of a whip rather than a bang. It's difficult to explain. Is this something that should worry me? I've recently upgraded my rig, so I took everything out and put it back in but it was doing in the previous rig and in the previous case as well. It's been happening for about 3-4 months or so. Is this something I should be worried about? as in my power supply is living its last days?
svarvakis
Is it safe to assume from the lack of replies that noone has seen this before?
bootsy1
I have had two psu`s that made a loud pop sound when first switched on, the first one was the same model as yours and the other was a replacement Hx650. They both went the same way ie a pop when you first switched them on then they triped the mains then they died.
svarvakis
were they doing this for a while or was it once and then they died?
bootsy1
Hi Svarvakis, the first one a Hx620 did it for about three months before it died, the replacement Hx650 did it for only a couple of weeks before it died. In both cases the noise was like a loud pop as soon as you switched it on but they both worked ok until they died.
svarvakis
So I opened the case and used a hair dryer on cold-blow setting(ran out of compressed air and its all closed - easter sunday and all) and used the vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dust I could root out. Admittedly there was very little dust as I try to clean it as often as I can. I also changed the power lead just in case. There was still a pop noise although this time it wasn't as loud. I guess from what you say it's just a matter of time. I wonder if there is anything to do in the house electrics that might affect it? not sure..:sigh!:
svarvakis
Corsair decided to RMA the PSU and its on its way to Holland now so thanks Corsair :D: My question now would be whether the HX620W would be capable to run 2 5850s in Crossfire. I know it lacks the connectors but you can get a molex to pci-e connector for that purpose. I've seen in reviews that it can deliver just under 60A in the 2 12V rails so would that be enough to run 2 ATI 5850's in Crossfire?
