ErikArizona
I'm working on my first build and have a question about the power cables to the video card from the AX850. I bought a Gigabyte HD 7950 3gb GDDR5 video card. The card came has two power connectors on the side one 8 pin (2 rows of 4) and one 6pin (2 rows of 3) both recessed male. It came with one cable an 8 pin female that splits into two 4 pin molex connectors. There was no PCI-E cable with the card. The instruction manual show a picture with two cables being plugged into the card (8 & 6) and into a power supply (8 & 6). I have two PCI-E cables from Corsair that came with the power supply. Both are 8 on one end and 6 (with a connected but separate 2) on the other end. Questions - 1. Can I use these two PCI-E cables and forget the "8 to two Molex" splitter cable that came with the card? 2. If yes the 6+2 end do I just plug the 6 into the 6 one on the card and not plug in the 2 part? Here is a link to a picture of the connector. http://imageshack.us/a/img6/4789/imageuxzv.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img13/1236/imageqld.jpg Thanks for your help. peanutz94
1. Can I use these two PCI-E cables and forget the "8 to two Molex" splitter cable that came with the card? Yes, absolutely. It would be preferred over an adapter anyway. 2. If yes the 6+2 end do I just plug the 6 into the 6 one on the card and not plug in the 2 part? Yes again! ErikArizona
Ok here are the cables. Have one end 8 and other 6+2. I plug in the 8 to an 8 slot on AX860 and the other end (6+2) into the 8 slot into the card? 2. I plug in the 6+2 to the 6 hole one on the card (leaving the 2 unplugged to anything) and plug the other end 8 into 8 hole plug on AX860? 3. Are there specific slots on the AX860 I have to use or can I use any two of the 8 hole slots for power? Is this correct? Thanks, Erik
GreenToxon
1. Yes, correct. 2. Yes, also correct. 3. Yes, they should be the middle row marked "PCI-E or CPU/EPS"
peanutz94
3. Are there specific slots on the AX860 I have to use or can I use any two of the 8 hole slots for power? Yes and you make sure the labeled end of the cable gets hooked to your video card and the other end to the PSU. Only use the slots on the PSU marked for PCIe
