CML8GX3M2A1600CP - Sabertooth X79

Hi guys!

I hope everyone is doing just fine and getting ready for spring break :)

I have 32GB of CML8GX3M2A1600C9 memory and since I bought it every time I turn on my computer it works fine for about 5 minutes and then I get a BSOD and then it restarts, after it restarts itself it can only find 24 GB of RAM memory.

I was ok with that and was patient I bought the memory + motherboard. I worked with the 24GB and was fine with the machine restarting itself, I would go make myself a coffee or something. I really like the brand and the mobo is really cool and stuff so I never reached customer support or anything.

Now I need to use all the 32GB and I don't understand anything about overclocking, I just need it to work.

I know where how to change the BIOS setting if I needed to so please guys give me a hand.

I get the same error on Windows 7 and 8 both on 64 bits.

Thanks heaps for your help!!!

Your issues could very well be that you are using 4 single 8 gig sticks instead of buying a single matched 32gig kit. They may add up to the same but unless the sticks are physically matched there is no way to guarantee any sort of stability. It makes a HUGE difference!.

At 1600mhz with that CPU your not overclocking because the CPU supports 1600mhz natively. So if the system is not stable at that setting it doesn't look good.

Also memory misdetection could be incorrect BIOS settings or more than likely a bad module or MB. Test eah stick individually with memtest . If they all pass in the first Mb slot then take a known good stick and test the other slots the same way. Let us know how that goes.

Is your BIOS up to date? And are you using XMP?

Thank you very much for helping.

Yes, my BIOS is the latest from ASUS and I've had this problem even with the version the mobo came with which was about 4 versions prior to this last one.

I'm also using XMP.

The messages on the BSOD are

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

or some TCPIP stuff

Sadly I've read abit about Memtest and it looks a bit overwhelming. I was thinking of buying a 64 kit instead and leaving this memory for some other computer I build with of course a different mobo.

Is there a 64GB kit youo guys would recommend that I can use with this X79 motherboard?

Thanks peeps

EDIT:

Yeah, you might be right since I bought 4 of

to make 32GB :(

Memtest is easy. Just unzip and burn the file to a disc or put it on a USB key. Then you change the boot order in your BIOS to boot to either your USB or DVD,instead of your C drive. Then start the test.

Something like this would run great on that board...

This can and can not be related to memory. It can be a host of other issues. But you would need to test the memory to find out. There is always the possibility something is wrong with the board. /shrugs

Here's a link to some information on the Win7 forums. I reline your on 8 but the information would still be applicable. I would tend to think that your BSOD's are software related somewhere. But again to be definitive, you would need to test the memory with memtest.

Thanks a lot!

I see there's not much of a difference in price between the 1866 and the 1600mhz memory so I would go for the 1866.

I will try to run Memtest but first I have to get an USB pen device.

I will look into the w7forums link.

No, I'm not overcloking the machine

Again thanks

Ok, so I bought a 3 TB hard drive and a 16GB pen drive from Amazon who btw have a better price on the memory

I am backing up work files and such and I will be able to whack the mole out of this thing if it does not work. Like I said I had been avoiding this for almost 9 months but shrug ... I'll be ready to reinstall the OS and if there's something wrong with the memory I'll just get the 64GB kit and use the other memory in another machine if it is any good.

I will run Memtest anyway.... will be posting my findings soon.

Wish me luck
