TimeLord517
OK, so maybe I'm an idiot (I don't think so), but I can't figure out how to mount the LINK... I have an Obsidian 800D. Obviously, there are no 3.5" bays (other than those specifically meant for HDDs) to mount the Link Commander or the GPU Node. I have purchased 3 different "3.5 to 5.25" mounting kits from various manufactures, and none of them will fit the hole spacing of the Commander or Node... Other than "just leave them laying around," what have people done to actually MOUNT these things?
saitei
Maybe something like this? I'm glad you posted this. I haven't installed my link system yet, and had accidentally bought a 2.5 --> 3.5 adapter. I didn't notice until I looked at my order, haha. I just ordered the one that I linked. TLBradbury
On the 800D, there are the 5.25 bays (5), the swappable HDD bays (4), an enclosed fan, and then some more 3.5 bays at the bottom. The commander and GPU nodes should fit easily into any 3.5 bay. To me it would make the most sense to mount them there, but you will probably not be able to because of the cables. I have a 650D, and I put my HDDs at the bottom and the LINK Commander and GPU module in the middle to allow the cables to reach (cable lengths are one of my gripes with the hardware in the system). You have so many bays in the 800D, but your real problem will be the reach of the cables for that big of a case. Listen up, Corsair! The current length of cables, lights, etc. is probably fine if you're doing a build in a mini-tower, but a lot of us actually buy your high-end products and nothing reaches. How about a little help here!

I agree, I'm going to have to either purchase another Lighting node or wait for the separate LED strips (have been teased for ages now) to get them to reach points in my case without looking silly. The length of the cables isn't an issue for me (and where stuff needs to be longer, the extensions they include work but aren't "pretty" since it just adds more stuff in the case). My problem is that the holes, for whatever reason, on the commander and GPU node are NOT "standard" spacings (unless maybe I got a batch that are slightly off?). On all 3 of the 5.25" bay to 3.5" drive adapters I have tried, only one set of holes (so either the front pair, or the rear pair) line up. If you compare the spacing to an actual HDD (that has 3 pairs of holes), they're not even close to being in the same spots... Actually, everything about the holes is "off" - the position of the holes in both directions (vertically and horizontally) don't match a true 3.5" HDD... Using the "hidden" 2 bays on the 800D is a great idea - it's what I originally came up with. But in order to use the mounting rails I'd have to drill out / de-thread the 2 control boxes, that would then prevent me from using them anywhere else / in any case that does NOT use rails... GTXJackBauer
I have stuck the cooling nodes in the back side of the 800D and velcro'd the Commander and Lightening node in the bottom cage.
Darkwing
indeed, I had the same issue with my case. I used the mounting kit that came with my case, and only used 2 screws at the back. The front of the commander is hold up by the mesh outcut at the front.
