Cannot update F60GB2 SSD drives

CORSAIR CSSD-F60GB2

SERIAL: 10376500320009990066

SERIAL: 10376500320009990065

FIRMWARE REV: 1.1

CAPACITY: 60GB

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P6X58D PREMIUM

I have been too-ing, and fro-ing, on these forums for quite some time now.

I finally got around to breaking my raid-0 array, and the program finally saw the drives.

Anywho, so I tick the drive and load the 2.4 *.pkg file

'Firmware for this drive not found in package'

Can I please just RMA them?

I am obviously dealing with a sub-par product that has a lot of flaws.

Both drives do the same thing, but I have to switch drives/ re-install the OS to test it out.

I have seriously spent all day backing up, etc and re-doing my machine, the last 3-4 hours trying to get this stupid firmware update to work. I see I'm not the only one .. I have spent 10+ hours all up re-searching, stuffing around etc - I'm done.

Edit: I re-read the (out dated) instructions we get referred to. It would appear I need the 2.0 alternate update.. the link from the PDF doesn't work. Where may I find this 2.0 alternative .pkg file?

So,

2 reboots later, and disconnecting the SATA power for a bit, the SSD's have come up in firmware 2.0

But the 2.4 firmware update does not work still. My system is not capable of doing the update. Therefore, I am encouraged to file an RMA.

Can I RMA these still? Can you guys just chuck me a 128GB to replace it (a single SATA 3 ~ 500 mb/sec) which would be on par with my raid-0 2 x 60 gb array

Toasted, and what exactly will they do, that I can't do myself?

I can clearly run an update. Just not the latest one. I believe I have the 40, not the 25 nm version, which is why .. ie; the same model just the inferior version .. if that makes sense.

Why do you have to chime in on every post attempting to make people feel stupid, I've probably been building machines since you were in the womb

Cheers

How are corsair going to update my drives, when they are un-updatable, as outlined in another post (the 2.0 post, if you read)

I've clearly been there, done that with all of this. Corsair cannot update the firmware, but they can physically replace this drive, which is incapable of going past 2.0

Just to clarify, we have machines in our factory that can update those drives. They CAN do what you cannot do.

FWIW, Toasted is a very helpful member of our forum and he made a perfectly logical suggestion so your comments are unwarranted. ::pirate::

That's cool, corsair are replacing my SSD drives and now my PSU. At least I can ship them together to save money. Still never heard back about my replacement faulty PSU cable.

Operation RMA underway .. 3/5 complete.

It's hard hearing to do basic stuff when you've been a computer tech for 10+ years, done things outside the official doco to get things working, and still run into a brick wall.

Firmware update problems? Try updating an IBM Blade Server IO Module (SAS module) using python & linux CLI over the network. I think I had an easier time doing that. Why? They were well designed to have firmware updates upgraded, downgraded, etc from the beginning, a well engineered device.

Can I see a pic of those machines? How exactly do they work? You've piqued my interest. I guess being an original corsair SSD owner, back in 2010 I was posting speeds of ~550MB/ sec++ which was nearly unheard of on a desktop without spending huge amounts of money.

PS: the 1.1 --> 2.0 firmware update has at LEAST fixed the 'freezing' issues in certain parts of the drives, mainly the 'downloads' folder.. these drives have only read ~ 6 TB each, and written ~ 2 TB each, and are in 100% health in CrystalDiskInfo

My 'secure erased' drive performs better than my non secure erased drive (currently running my OS) but I'll secure erase it again and see if my RAID performance is at least .. not going to freeze.

I kinda feel like having these drives is like owning a pet, they are a lot of work.

But like a dopey dog, missing an eye and with a limp, I have a soft spot for them.

I suggest you have a backup link to the 2.0 firmware for people in my situation that can use the 'alternative 2.0' package, but go no further. At least they won't feel so stupid then..and simple - if you can go 2.0 but not 2.4, RMA LINK -->

Yeah but you can't find it unless you look in Google,

I mean, has corsair looked at the OCZ ssd update utility? It's a dream to use, works flawlessly, and will even d/l the firmware live WIRELESSLY IF YOU WANT and flash your stuff all from a usb stick they create a tool for you, with a double click and a reboot.

Enjoy corsair ssd's...never again...i'm selling these RMA'd while still 'new'
