blitz07
I recently completed an RMA for a set of CMP8GX3M2B1333C9 [Ver5.11] that had one faulty module. Unfortunately, the particular modules were discontinued and was instead sent a set of CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 as replacement. I thought there would be no problem since I had already installed 1600 MHz Ram dual channel set on my PC that worked without a problem. The system just lowered the speed to 1333 MHz instead of 1600, which is fine. The problem is with the new ram [CMP8GX3M2A1600C9][Ver3.24]. I cannot get my computer to boot into bios. I've tried putting both modules, then one module only, and also tried resetting the bios to no avail. The SPD for this ram is rated at 1333 Mhz @ 9-9-9-24 timings--although it an go to 1600 MHz. Which should make it Identical to the old ram I had [CMP8GX3M2B1333C9]. Did I receive a set of faulty ram? Update: Upon further research I think the problem might be the different versions of the ram. If not mistaken, the old ram used 256Mx8 IC's while the new ram uses 512Mx8 IC's. ~Bios is up to date. How can this be resolved? Thanks! PS. RAM GUY: I sent you a message, but i'm not sure if you check messages.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 11, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 11, 2013 I am sorry but I do not accept private messages, and I am sorry but we do not support or suggest mixing memory. It would be best to return the set you just purchased if possible and find another use the current set and purchase a new set of memory that is the density you want to use. However, all of the DDR3 memory in production are made with 512M X 8 memory IC's and would not be compatible with the MB you have listed
blitz07
I may have been a bit confusing. I was not trying to mix the RAM. What I meant is that my old [CMP8GX3M2B1333C9] was not functioning and had to complete an RMA. The Ram I received for the RMA as replacement was the [CMP8GX3M2A1600C9]. I would hope there would be some saved stock with 256Mx8 IC's. Is there any way that I could get a version of [CMP8GX3M2A1600C9] with 256Mx8 IC's? Your help is highly appreciated. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 13, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 13, 2013 I have spoke to customer service and they will contact you and setup another RMA and we will have to issue a refund for you because we do not make a compatible part for this system any longer. Or you can contact our customer service by phone and make these arrangements.
