sherifsaid123
Hi, i have an H70 corsair water cooler and I ended up bending some fins in the corner because I used screws that were longer than needed and ended up bending fins. I don't know where the pipes are and i can't see their exact location in the radiator and i need someone to help me figure out if i'm in any risk of leakage. The bent fins are at the top right hand corner and the lower left hand corner right below the screw holes. Here is a picture of the bent fins at the top right, sorry the picture is a little blurry. http://s1303.beta.photobucket.com/user/sherifsaid123/media/IMG_0110_zps2e2331fe.jpg.html
madmecca1975
I did the same but not as bad there is no water in the little fins just the ones that go down the radiator the fatter ones
sherifsaid123
So what should I do at this point? i've had the computer on for a few hours no with no signs of leaking, but i'm still really worried. The tubes are the vertical metal lines separating the rows of fins right?
madmecca1975
That's correct as far as I understand.bent a few on mine then noticed so put some washers on the bolts 4 months and no leaks I would not worry just keep an eye on it in case. But me personally would not worry hope this makes you feel better I was gutted when I did it
sherifsaid123
Well i'm going to be extremely paranoid and end up removing the fans and checking the radiator every day. As you can tell it's hard for me not to worry until i know for sure. What makes me feel even more like **** is that I just got it 2 days ago and i'm using it on the computer that i just got as well. Anyways, thank you for your help. Do you have any idea what I could do to know for sure that i'm safe though? like maybe some type of test. peanutz94
There is nothing to worry about. The screw holes are put over the fins for this very reason. A few bent fins are not going to hurt a thing.
madmecca1975
I understand what you mean about being paranoid all I can say is just keep an eye on its temps and for any sign of leaking but can't see you going to have any probs hopefully one of the moderators for this site could fill you with more confidence and reasurence
peanutz94
There is no chance of it leaking from bent fins. If it were going to leak you would have had coolant in your system by now
sherifsaid123
Alrighty then I'll just attempt to take my mind off of it and hopefully everything turns out okay. Thank you madmecca1975 and peanutz94, I truly appreciate your help.
Darkwing
all that the fins do is heat up, so as to give a bigger area to loose heat when the fans blow through them. Even if you cut some (or all) off it wouldn't leak. Sure if a whole bunch of them are bent it will perform less, but still not leak. ;):
sherifsaid123
Oh ok, I was about to ask if it would leak if some fins fell off completely. As you can see in the second pic I posted, these fins at the corner are badly damaged, but the tube running vertically next to the group of fins that are damaged looks fine. Darkwing
as long as you don't damage the tubing you'll be fine.
