pc keep restarting on new ram

today i bought 3x CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 hoping to make my pc performance better.

back home, i immediately change my 3x 2gb ram to my new 3x 4gb ram.

first time boot up i opened gpu-z and saw my pc only detected 2 ram and third one is missing.

so i guess i restart and tighten the ram socket, now it appears as 3x 4gb ram.

everything works ok so far, i were able to use my pc for few minutes until everything went south.

my pc crashed, blue screen appeared and the continuous restart happens.

after that googled for several solutions which i went to bios and set my ram voltage to 1,5v as recommended.

that didnt help, the restart still happening. i changed back to my old ram, the restart also still happening.

after that i went to bios again and reset everything back to default, which isnt helping at all.

then tried several stuff like changing latency timings, upping the voltage to 1,55 and anything i can think of but its still not working.

so now im out of idea and my pc is still keep restarting.

so anyone please give me idea what went wrong. any expert's help will be really appreciated.

here is my pc specs

i7 960

j560m motherboard

2x nvidia gtx 480

3x 2gb ddr3 pc1333 ram(old)

3x 4gb ddr3 pc1600 ram(CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9)

1500w psu

We don't recommend mixing memory like what you're doing loveandpeace. Even if they are the same part number, the IC's on the modules may be different. I would recommend you return each module and instead purchase a 12GB Kit. Here is the part number: CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9.

can you explain what do you mean by clear the bios?

i did make sure to set it to right voltage and timing.

On most motherboard you can clear it via cmos clear jumper... but on few motherboard, there's a button/switch either in backplate or in the board itself. Consult your mobo's manual book and find out where is the cmos clear jumper/button/switch location.

ok, so far i think the problem is my PSU.

I tried to use 1 graphic card to run and it worked perfectly, been using whole day without crashes, restart, or blue screen.

i didnt consider this possibility because i have 1500W PSU which now considering i would only use around 1000W with i7 960 + 2xGPU + 3x4GB RAM (Checked using newegg PSU calculator)

now since, the restart would happen when 2 GPU is on the problem is PSU itself supplying not enough power and thus making my pc to restart over and over isnt it? (please correct me if i am wrong)

now, is there anyway to check if my PSU works correctly? or maybe there is something wrong with and way to fix it?

Are the powerline in your house stable enough? Have you see your lights dim and brightens once or twice in last couple of months?

1500w should be sufficient... the reason your psu screwing your ram/gpu supply would either a faulty psu or poor electricity..

Faulty psu would be better to RMA it if still in guaranty period..

Poor quality electricity from your house's powerline could be remedied by electric stabilizer.

That doesn't look at all like a power issue at all. A bad GPU or MB would be my best guess. I would swap the GPU's around and use the one you removed and see if it the issues return.

If not then switch the known good GPU to the other PCI slot and retest. You might also try the power wires from your one GPU on the other .

Your not using anywhere near 1000W even with your system at full load. Neweggs PSU calculator is extremely conservative.

Each one of your GPU's CAN use up to 260w a piece then the rest of your system would probably use the same or close to it. But again, ONLY when at full load. This is not power consumption all the time.

the electricity in my house is stable, no dim lights whatsoever.

i considered the possibility of bad gpu as you said, I tried each GPU for several hours and both are working fine.

so considering my motherboard is faulty, how do detect it? I recall that a capacitor on my motherboard accidentally popped out few months back, but since it didnt cause any problem i just ignore it. do you think that is the cause of the continuous restart?

also, Im using alienware area 51 casing with j560m motherboard. considering the lights, vents, motorized door and all the other stuffs and my specs how many watts do you think will be appropriate? (if its because of faulty psu)

and if i have to replace my motherboard, can you recommend me an x58 motherboard that can fit in alienware area 51 casing? or any x58 motherboard works?

thanks for the help!

A popped out capacitor?

If your house's electricity is stable.. and your both your gpu could work independently..

Try borrowing another psu, if it still didn't runs well, then your mobo is looking to be rma'ed. If it runs well, try your original psu in your friend's pc to make sure your psu is okay.

I've had an experience with an abit ip35-e, 8800gt, and toughpower 650xt that screaming the ram error morse code when I put new corsair twinx in it.

switch psu with an acbell 600w didn't make the ram works, switch vga with 7600gt didn't make it work, but that ram could work with my amd based pc..

After lot of stress, turns out it's a combination of psu and gpu that wouldn't work with that ram.

Certainly is possible...depending on where and what that capacitor is linked to.

Not sure, but i though the Alienware(DELL's) used proprietary MB's that do not have standard ATX mounting positions for the MB. So you may be stuck finding another one of the same. But i 'm not familiar with the DELL branded Alienware's anymore!.
