Frank_Jarle
Hi I have just purchased Corsair Link and Cooling kit i was looking forward to get it up and running, but man lots of trouble with it, manually update the firmware. Previously i had my AF140, AF120 and SP120 connected to the motherboard and it was all working perfectly fine, super quiet fans. Now i have connected it to the Corsair Link Cooling and Lighting kit. When i run the fans at default speed (1300-ish) they run all fine, but the moment i set them at any lower RPM they start to make noise, a sound that resemble HD ticking sound, of course it is not the HD but the fans themselves. When i plug the fans back to the motherboard and control the fans through BIOS or through the ASUS FANExpert it is all working fine and i can run it at the lowest possible speed of 350-400RPM, and its super quiet. I have tried to look around to see if i did something wrong here, but it seems not. I have tried the Quiet profile, Fixed RPM and all the others, same *****, it mak annoying sound when using Corsair Link. What is wrong and what is actually happening? If i did not know better i would think that there is a secret communication between Corsair Link and the fans that send a secret message to make the fans make noise?!?!?!?!? It does NOT make noise when connected directly to the motherboard. System version: 2.2.0 Corsair Commander 2: 2.0.6 Corsair H100: 1.1.12 Corais Cooling Node: 1.2.5 1xAF140 2xAF120 2xSP120 1x100H 1xAX860i Windows 7, 64bit English, fully updated. Frustrating when spending so much money on this, if this issue can't be addressed i will just return it and find other means of adjusting the fans since it works perfectly fine through the motherboard. pucci821
I love this cooler but I have H100i and software will only control 120 fans that come with unit if you pick up a different set of 120 fans they will run at full rpm. I put a pair of QE SP120 corsair fans on my radiator and even though unit is cool and quiet fans can't be controlled with CL2 software. Reading through Corsair forum only Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) fans work with unit and not all PWM fans will. Yea I could use a fan controller unit or my case fan controller but why should you have to if unit is to be controlled by Corsair software. Why is there no mention about product hardware requirements with this unit is beyond me because this hardware is for the enthusiast hardware builders and they should know we will swap out fans in a heart beat. see pic's
Frank_Jarle
For me i always got the impression that Corsair Link cooling and Lighting kit supports both 3 and 4 pins fans. But what surprises me here is that when i run the fans directly on the motherboard they run perfectly, run it on Corsair Link it just make noise. I would guess that there is some frequency issues?!?!?!? Fan run at 400RPM on motherboard, quiet Fan run at 400RPM on Corsair Link, make noise close to HD ticking sound (that is the closest sound i can think of at the moment). If necessary i can create a video and upload on youtube if Corsair want me to do that to demonstrate the issue? Frank Andersen. Norway

I mean if the Link was working as intended it would be a better fan controller program but it hasn't been for me. I don't know why corsair decided to make it so that the H100 won't control the af or sp series fan through the software if they are connected to the H100 and not a cooling node. The only reason I can think is so you have to buy more cooling nodes. I am not sure why corsair doesn't come out with some 4 pin fans either. I find it kind of odd that I have had more issues with my corsair fans then I have the Akasa fans I am also using with the link but I guess that is just dumb luck. iWingers
I updated my cooling node to 1.2.5 as well, and got some noise if they weren't running on maximum. Sadly, I read another thread with the exact same problem after I had already done it. It's just my AF120 QE and intake fan though, so I'm not too bothered as they run on low RPM anyway and are barely audible.
tastyhouse
Yeah you probably read my thread. My fans that came with the h100i ran dead quiet when connected to the cooling node on FW 1.2.4. I made the mistake of "upgrading" the firmware to 1.2.5 which is when they started making this awful noise at anything under max RPMs. The only thing I can think of is the node isn't supplying the fan with the appropriate amount of power based on the RPMs you set. This seems to be a pretty common issue and one I hope they fix soon because my computer sounds like a jet engine.

Hi...Dont think so much about that, because i got my unit straight from the shop and it was some old firmware on the Commander and the cooling node, i do not remember the numbers, but i tried it through the 1.27 version of the CorsairLink2 software and the fans still made clicking-ish noise at low RPM. I am surprised that Corsair have not come to this thread and provide an answer my setup is perfect for them to reproduce as all my parts is Corsair parts (case, fans, cooling and PSU). There is only one flaw with Asus, the CPU and OPT_CPU connection on the motherboard can't control 3pin fans, apperantly this is a firmware issue that they have not fixed. If it was not for this i would just use the motherboard controller. Right now all the fans must be used at min 1100RPM to give no clicking noise, but hey it feels like i am listening to a hairdryer at distanse. As to reply to the previous post about lighting, well i will not use the lighting kit unless the fan can be controlled, it shall be used and shall work in tandem without silly flaws like this. Corsair: As i mention previously i can do a recording and upload it youtube if that is of interest or send the file privately. Ram_Guy please help here.... iWingers
In your first post you mention that the Cooling Node is 1.2.5, and that's what I was saying made the ticking noise for me. Even if you change the Software version the firmware will still be the same on the Cooling Node. If there was a way to flash the firmware on the Node, I would recommend it, but I don't know where an older version can be found
robandcathy
I think I read someplace you can't downgrade firmware, otherwise you will brick it, but I may be wrong.
Frank_Jarle
RAM_GUY: What do you say i can't downgrade the FW on the cooling node? Now it seems to be some people that is having issues with the 1.2.5 FW for the cooling node, and in my case i do use Corsair parts only, possible for you to do something. Frank Andersen, Norway frank, your using the newer version of the software and their is issues with other fans other than the stock fans that came with the cooler.while you stated you have corsair fans ,only stock is assured to work properly. they do say if you try to go to older software you may brick your cooling node, fortunately i was able to backtrack and not have your issues but it requies alot of file deletiong and registry changes and not really recommended. but if you brick yours, you can rma it.;):

To the fans that come with H100 or the fans that came with the Case i am having (CORSAIR MIDITOWER CARBIDE 500R ATX WHITE)? Surely the stock fans that came with the cabinet does not fit the cabling that came with Corsair Link. And, i have also connected the stock fans that came with H100 to see if it was something there that was improved over the newer Corsair SP/AF120 fans. It is the same problem for all the fans. I believe that the best issue is that Corsair fix this through firmware, i have provided all the details they need to know, i use only their products they should easily be able to reproduce this, it is not like i have bought and mix-matched different fans from different vendors, this is all from their product line which they claim is top notch, yeah? But unless they can provide some kind of fix for this soon, i gladly would like to know exactly what you have done, you can send me a PM with all the details or link to a specific post of it exist here in the forum. I was so p*issed off that i after one day removed the whole Corsair Link from the Carbide cabinet, why would i have some product that does not work, and why does Corsair not put a big ***RED*** labeled text on their firmware page. The reason for all this **SH§TT* is that: 1) Corsair link to the newest software on the homepage for Corsair Link, this software does not work at all. It require you to download old version from last ice age to install the latest firmware. 2) Corsair fail to notify the user that ***DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT*** install the latest firmware on the Cooling Link node, only the Commander. 3) Information is buried deep below in the forum. I installed Corsair Link and i spent 5 hours to get it up and running and to recognize all the parts i had connected to it. 4) I am frustrated by lack of information by Corsair, yet i love their products until they do these things. Now i have a piece of bad equipment in the drawer collecting dust until they have fixed this. To Corsair: Sorry to vent my frustration, but when you firstly give the customer a small orange sticker with URL to the download page which is only the newest and latest software that does not work with stock FW. Secondly, when you expect the user to dig deep into the forums to get it to work and must write some special guide it make the customer upset and frustrated. Please show how good your product is, show how good customer service you actually have.

Frank_Jarle
you had mentioned using a h100 and sp-120 and af-120 fans. currently only the h100 fans work with the h100 and link and the case fans dont. I think you misunderstand my setup here, i do not ran no fans connected to the H100, it was merely to have it connected to the Commander Commander->Cooling Node Connected to the cooling node directly: - 1x AF140 - 2x AF120 - 2x SP120 connected directly to Commander: - H100 (there is no fan connected to H100 at this moment) - Corsair AX860i - Cooling Node So if you look at my setup i have no fans connected to H100 and then to the Commander, i run all my fans in the whole system directly to the Cooling Node only. So i don't see how the "stock fans only" is valid in this case. IF i however had the fans connected to H100 and H100 in turn connected to Commander i would agree on your statement that only stock fans can be connected to H100 to control them. By my post is to post that when any fan, stock fan, Intel fan or Corsair's own AF/SP fan is connected and goes below 1000RPM it makes ticking sound :-) Until this is fixed i will not install this in the system. I can't think it can be so difficult to fix, go back in the old code and see what is the difference, bring back the old working code for fans.... Can't really count it as a mistake because I rather have the ticking noise as long as it does'nt damage my fans because before I couldnt even lower the RPM on my fans. But when I'm at my computer I just set all to maximum, can barely hear them with my G930 headset on :) And now we are just waiting..
