Vengeance 2000 Broken USB Socket

I bought the Vengeance 2000 in August 2012 and have used it a few times per week since then. Because the battery life is no where near what was claimed (about 4 hours on average) I usually leave it plugged in - defeating the entire purpose of buying wireless to begin with.

Yesterday I noticed it wasn't taking a charge. After swapping cables, USB ports, and different computers I realized it is the USB input on the headphones itself. I cannot see any signs of damage but I have to wiggle the cord around to get the charging light to come on and charge it. The real downside is once I put the headphones down the cord moves and it stops charging.

Here's the real kicker - I am in Afghanistan, so I cannot return it for RMA. I can receive packages but I cannot send any.

I bought these for what minimal downtime I get over here and they are broken after just a few months. The don't get kicked around, or moved, or used by anyone else. They sit in the corner of my room where I have my laptop setup.

I was willing to live with the terrible battery life but not this.

Anyone else have this problem and can suggest a possible fix?

Turns out the socket is somehow loose. If I plug it in and then jam a toothpick under it it will charge. The new problem is even when it charges until the light is green, the battery only lasts for 30 minutes or so.

So basically I now have an expensive, wired headset that I have to jam a toothpick in to for it to work, and be careful not to move my head around too much else the toothpick falls out.

Hi. It stopped holding a charge completely. It turns out I will be in the US for a very short period - April 14-18.

1) Is there anyway I can request an RMA, have a replacement shipped now so it is waiting on me, then when I enter the US on the 14th I can ship this back? You can place a hold on my credit card in the meantime in case I fail to ship the defective one back.

2) Can I downgrade to the 1500? I don't care about the different in price and am not asking for the difference back. I am just worried about how delicate the charging port is on the 2000 and I won't be back in the US for a long time if it breaks again.

Thanks - I'm miffed but I know this is the exception for Corsair products rather than the rule. ::pirate::

Dacker, I would recommend setting up a RMA in a week as they'll need you to return the product to us within 14 days if you do an advance RMA. If you do it in the beginning of April, we can send you the headset first and you should be able to receive it by the time you get back and send it back before your CC gets charged.

Hi. I submitted the RMA last week and finally got a reply. Although I explained the situation and asked for an advance RMA, and even referred to this post, I received an e-mail today stating I'd have to return the defective headset before Corsair will send me the replacement.

As I mentioned here and in the RMA, I will only be in the US for a very brief period. My dates have changed somewhat so that now I will be in the US from April 8-14, but I specifically stated those dates in the RMA and asked to have the replacement shipped to arrive before April 14. I work in a location where I cannot receive personal packages the size the headset comes in, so my only recourse is to bring it back with me after picking it up in the US. That's how I got the headset to begin with.

So what can I do now, other than just eat the $125 and chalk it up to lesson learned? I e-mailed support about this issue, but they usually take 3-4 days to respond and time is running out for me. I'm en route back to the U.S. now.

I thought I'd follow-up on this:

Customer service didn't get the replacement to me before I had to leave to return to Afghanistan. I am disappointed, since I contacted them in plenty of time and offered to pay for all express shipping.

Anyway, I was able to have a friend receive the replacement, unbox it, and stick it in a smaller box to send to me. It arrived here in Afghanistan last week (took about 1.5 months), so I have it now.

The build quality seems superior to the early headset, and particularly the little USB input - it is firm and doesn't wiggle like the other one.

So all in all I'm pretty happy with the product. Works perfectly and seems like a quality product.

I spoke too soon - the replacement now has the same problem. I've submitted an RMA request.

The socket doesn't get that much use. I guess it gets plugged and unplugged every 3-4 days since I don't wear them more than a couple of hours a day. I do wear them plugged in on occasion but there doesn't appear to be any strain on the cord when I do. What's odd is there doesn't appear to be any damage at all to either the socket or the cord so I can't tell what the problem is. When I wiggle the USB plug right at the socket the red light comes on, but it only comes on so long as I hold it in that exact spot.

Anyway, I'm hoping the next replacement is a bit more durable.
