T1m
Hi all, I signed up today as I'm looking for some advice. Bit of a noob so apologies if this is in the wrong section. I have done an upgrade recently (new GFXcard , SSD and memory) but had some trouble when re-installing windows on the SSD. It got to the 'Starting windows' splash and then hung. I tried every combination of hardware to try and establish the fault and realized that it worked when I swapped in my old mem. The new memory I was trying to use was CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B. I checked on the compatibility search on the corsair website and found that CML16GX3M4A1600C9B was compatible with my mobo and thought that the memory i purchased was the same, just with larger heatsinks. Was I mistaken to think this or should I start to run some tests to ascertain the health of the memory with a view to replacement? No combination of any amount of the new memory in any of the DIMMs resulted in getting further than the splash screen which made me think the problem ran deeper than just bad memory. Sorry for rambling a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
T1m
Quick Update: I have now re-flashed BIOS to F11 as I noticed the newest version had some memory compatibility updates. I attempted to run MemTest. However, memtest ran for about 5 seconds then crashed (rebooting) no matter what combination of the new mem and bios setting I used. I also tried to use just one individual stick but couldn't even get past the BIOS splash when I did this. At least 2 modules were required to post, but any 2 worked. Memory was installed in a colleagues rig and ran fine so looks like there is nothing wrong with the memory. I'm starting to get the feeling this is a compatibility issue. Strange how corsair list the same LP memory as compatible though. It could also be my BIOS settings I guess but I have tried every combination of settings under the sun (inc. failsafe) and am still getting squat. I am still pretty baffled as to what is happening at the moment. Why cant I get past BIOS splash with just 1 module? Why is memtest failing catastrophically when it runs? Is it new mobo/proc time? :/
peanutz94
The two kits are basically the same as you said ,just with taller heat sinks. I'm not quite sure why they are acting that way , but you could try adjusting the voltage a little to see if that makes any difference. Just load set-up defaults first, then enable XMP, and manually set the voltage to 1.55v and see if that changes anything. Is it new mobo/proc time? :/ What memory did you have running in it before you bought the LP's? And did it run fine? If so, then the MB/CPU should be fine.
