scorn76
I have been trying to get 8GB of RAM to work in this motherboard but cannot keep it stable. I am not overclocking, I have tried a pair of both XMS DDR3 matched kit and a Vengence matched kit separately just using the BIOS SPD with XMP Profile 1, I tried to up the voltage on the memory controller but nothing will keep either pair from eventually crashing the system. Do I have to manually set timings on these or should they be stable with SPD? I have tried both pairs (separately, not mixing the Vengence and XMS ever) in my other computer overnight (GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3) and they both work fine in it. Thanks for your help. neuspeed
So you have two different models of memory? XMS and Vengeance? It's always recommended to get identical models. Did you ever have issues with the XMS pair? or was it only after you installed the Vengeance? If it only happens after installing the vengeance, try using only one module at the time of the vengeance and run an individual mem test for each vengeance module. You want to rule out which module is bad - or they could both be bad.
scorn76
Here is a screenshot of CPU-Z for each slot with the Vengeance in. http://static.dyp.im/IcmrT7S0W6/208bf92ac8961eab0afcd01015f6a44f.PNG http://static.dyp.im/6tZhT7eQuL/d27680a889985060af302121dd148509.PNG
scorn76
Hi neuspeed, I had the XMS3 in and it was not stable so I took them out and swapped Vengance out of my other computer but never mixed pairs, they both exhibit the same behavior. They will work for a while but eventually will make the computer crash. I believe both pairs are good because I can run them in my other computer great without issue. I got the new BIOS for this motherboard but nothing seems to make them stable. I will download memtest86 and test the Vengance in this computer now. peanutz94
If your trying to run them at 1600mhz you would need more voltage to both memory and QPI with your machine. Set the memory to 1.6vand possibly even 1.65v if need be, and the QPI to 1.35v @ 1600mhz.
scorn76
Thanks for the tip peanutz94, If I run the memory with SPD it is at 1866mhz should I use the same voltages? The mother board increments in steps of 2 so I can choose 1.64 or 1.66 I will try at 1.60. I just figured out it is not a crash the when the computer sleeps with the memory it does not wake correctly, the motherboard powers for a second then powers down when I flip the power supply off and press the power button to drain the caps and wait it powers back on. peanutz94
Yes, use the same voltages for that chipset.
neuspeed
What are the advertised speeds and voltage of the memory? The board should be able to run them at least at stock speeds. Also, if both memory pairs work fine in a different computer, it could be the processor or the motherboard on the Gigabyte board.

Not always true depending on the chipsets. For example the same memory in an older AMD system would require 1.7v which s above the rated specs for the modules. neuspeed
Either way.. from a stability standpoint, it's best practice to buy RAM that is compatible with the motherboard in question.
scorn76
Hi guys thanks for your help I think that motherboard is just too picky, I put both sets in my other computer with a different motherboard (GA-Z68MA-D2H)and am running 16G with no issues since yesterday. I know I should not run different types of pairs but they both clocked down to 1333 and I have not seen any issues after leaving the computer on all night. To get both pairs to work in the same computer I had to mix the memory across different channels or it would not boot and had freezing but after putting the XMS in the first white and black slots and the Vengance in the other white/black slots it works without any issues. I did not set XMP or any other settings and it works. I will run an extended memtest86 to verify no error. I put the original 4GB of an off brand memory that came with the motherboard as a combo deal and have no issues with sleep or BSOD. I think that motherboard (GA-H55-S2V) is just nit picky and I would have to tweak too many settings to try to get either of these sets to work. I am going to call this good thanks for the suggestions.
scorn76
Thats no good either, although Windows is stable I sure that when I start using some where near 7G in the physical it is going to BSOD where memtest86 shows errors.
