thenameDS
Recently my H80i began making a weird noise I never heard before, my thoughts were it was coming from the fans. It was like a wining noise and could be heard even when the fans were on quiet mode. I noticed there was a update for the firmware so decided to give that a go to see if there was a fix, the noise has now stopped but the fans are stuck at almost 1,800rpm. This is now worse than the wining noise and I can't change the fan speed using corsair link anymore. Also I've been using SP120 fans since day one, never used the stock fans their still wrapped up inside the box. Toasted
Plug the fans into the motherboard fan headers to control the SP120 fans. You could control the SP120 retail fans connected to the H80i before the update?
thenameDS
Yea before the update I could control the fan speed using the CorsairLink 2. Now the fans are just stuck at the same speed.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 5, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 5, 2013 The update was meant for PWM fan compatibility and not for noise issue. The PWM fan replacement was released to correct the noise issue with a combination of FW 1.05. We have never tested the SP120 with the FW 1.05. Try using the resistors that came with your SP120 fan. thenameDS
It did seem to help the wining noise I previously had though, although I must of been on a very old firmware version. I just tried them with no luck still the same maybe very minimal difference in sound, I also noticed the fans that came with my H80i are the 3 pin connector. Any chance of me getting the new PWM fans?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 8, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 8, 2013 Submit an RMA request and state that you need the PWM fans to replace your 3pin fan,
