GS 700 fan replacement

Hey guys,

So I bought a second hand gs700, it all went fine on intel onboard graphics until I installed my GTX 460 OC 1GB.

The fan started making the annoying noises other have been talking about.

Here is my noise, Turn your sound up because its quiet

Now because it has been opened and it was bought second hand, I cannot return it or get a refund.

Now, Do these PSU's work if there is no fan attached? Could I install a 3 pin fan and connect it to the motherboard? Or are there fans that work connected up to the PSU.

thanks,

Matt

I wouldn't try running it without a fan. It may run for awhile, but probably not very long before it overheated.

You also won't find any information on modifying or replacing the fan because it also voids the warranty and Corsair does not allow that information on the forums because PSU's inherently carry lethal voltages and can hurt you if you don't know your way around a PSU or know how to make sure it's been discharged correctly. If you choose to run the fan off the MB you do so at your own risk. The fan in the PSU s soldered to a fan controller inside.

But would the PSU run even if it didn't detect a fan? I have heard some PSU's don't boot if they can't detect a fan.

I might put a temperature gauge in and see what the temp is on a stock fan, Compared to an aftermarket one one all the time.
