H100i is red, CPU temp rising - don't think pumps working

I turned on my PC and the fans on the H100i spun up really, really slowly so much so that they made a struggling noise. the BIOS immediately kills boot up and the Corsair LED logo on the CPU block is lit up in red.

I turned up the speed of the fans from the Corsair 600T control knob and rebooted into Windows. Checking AI Suite the temp of the CPU is rising even though I have the fans on full.

I don't think the pumps working, how am I supposed to know if its working or not - it's not like looking at a fan spinning, there's nothing to look at!

I don't have Corsair Link installed because it plays hell with one of my HDD for some reason. I have no way of resetting the LED colour, it's stuck on red.

CPU temp seems to be stuck at 32.0 in AI Suite now with fans on lowest setting.

Temp is still going up. Red LED is fading in and out - what the F' is going on? Wish I'd stuck with my old fan cooler now, makes less noise as well.

EDIT

After a reboot the logo is back to blue, CPU temp is 38 at idle so what's up with that? This isn't very good if the damn thing doesn't work when I power on my PC everytime, unless I do it twice.

You need to create a profile and save it in the software otherwise the colors will go back to defaults every start-up.

You might also try reseating the cooler with fresh thermal paste to see if your temps are any better.

Can you see what the Pumps RPM's are in the BIOS?

Inherently the socket 2011 Ivybridge CPU's are notorious for running hot. It's because of the thermal paste Intel used between the CPU case and the chip itself and is a well documented issue. Some users have even cut the CPU case just to replace the thermal paste and have shaved almost 10c off of overall temps.

So if your getting between 32-38c that could absolutely be normal.

It went red because the fans were not spinning, just rotating, slowly. I can't save anything in the "profile" because I removed Corsair Link (had to because of the random frequent bothering of one of my internal hard drives while the software is installed).

So I now have the fans connected to headers on the motherboard and while quiet I can hear the pump buzzing.

He has sandybridge-e cpu not ivybridge so does not have that thermal paste issue, seems to me people using that 600t case are seeing slightly higher temps, i have a 2011 sb-e 3930k 6 core cpu and a large cm-haf-x case and am getting 21-30 idle 50-60c load

Install the CorsairLink 2 software, set the fans and whatever you need to, stop Sierra2Service, set service to manual. If you need to adjust the fans restart the service. Stopping Sierra2Service will stop the problem with the HDD.

Repeat as needed.

I am getting an ivy bridge... so what is this thermal paste issue?

But any idea why Seirra2Serice is doing that to my HDD?

bit of pain having to stop/start the service each time I want to make changes to the fan speeds. I'd rather Asus Fan Xpert+ handle that - unfortunately it is not changing the speeds, neither is the BIOS or SpeedFan.

I've got the pump connected to CHA_FAN3 on the motherboard. The two H100i fans are connected to CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT. And my two case fans are connected to CHA_FAN1 and CHA_FAN2. I can't change the speeds of any of them.

The H100i is still connected to the PSU but I removed the fan wire and the USB link cable.

EDIT

Okay so I've put the Link back on and reinstalled it, still doing odd things to my HDD. I've just noticed in Link when the temps change on the Intel CPU Temp or Intel CPU Load % that's when my HDD makes a noise, it's every three seconds and is absolutely in synch as the numbers change up or down.

1. I've got the pump connected to CHA_FAN3 on the motherboard, should it not be connected to a sata power connector?

2. The two H100i fans are connected to CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT. These fan headers will only control 4-pin PWM fans on the P9X79.

3. The 3-pin single wire connector should be connected to either CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT.

That explains why I can't control the h100i fan speeds when they're connected to the cpu fan headers, because the fans are not 4 pin. Little bit shortsighted of Corsair.

I've decided to stick with Corsair Link as it is more efficient and I don't get those cpu fan errors pre POST. The only problem is that weird thing it does to one of my hard drives.

I have the main wire from the cpu block going to a sata power connector and CPU_FAN header (as the instructions state). Then the attachable wire goes to the two fans so Link can control them. In hindsight having the pump on CPU_FAN header means I can't control the pump from Link (because it is not 4 pin) so am I better to connect the pump to a CHA_FAN?

The H100I fans are designed to hooked up to the pump, the 3-pin single wire connector should be connected to the CPU_FAN header this is for monitoring pump speed only and should eliminate pre post fan errors. It's not shortsightedness from Corsair just a simple way to do the job. Corsair products are high quality and design. But I find the instructions lacking.
