Acer v5 171 and CMSX8GX3M2A1866C10 error

Hi,

I have an acer v5 171 with i5 cpu 3317u third generation.

for this pc I bought the kit CMSX8GX3M2A1866C10 (SODIMM 2X4).

Just installed and started win7 64bit I got a blue screen error.

I tested with memtest86 and gives me errors in test 5, 6 and 7.

Memtest analyzed with the two banks separately in both slots available it seems that only one error genres.

I put that working in tandem with the sodimm supplied with the handset (naya 4GB) and I had no errors but obviously lower fsb.

What do you think if I ask for the replacement of the kit?

If I replace it would be best to take the same or take a CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 (SODIMM 2X4)?

thanks

Hi ziochris,

Unfortunately you have purchased memory that is not compatible with your notebook You system only supports a max speed of1600mhz with your CPU/chipset.

I would suggest returning them and purchase a set either directly from ACER or choose a kit that has been qualified by them. Alternatly you could choose a kit from this list of modules that Corsair has tested in that system

http://www2.corsair.com/configurator/corsair_custom.aspx?sc=us&id=5229717

CPU and chipset1 Intel® Core™ i5-3317U processor (3 MB L3 cache, 1.70 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.60 GHz, DDR3 1600 MHz, 17 W), supporting Intel® 64 architecture, Intel® Smart Cache

thanks for the reply ....

I knew that my pc supported up to 1600 but I thought that the 1866 could work equally to a lower frequency.

Also I do not understand why a stick give error and the other does not.

if I buy DDR3 1600 think that the kit CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 is okay?

excuseme for my bad english

my pc has intel chipset HM77express with ddr3 1600 ....

intel does not have commercializzed chipset mobile that support 1866 then with what machine would be compatible 1866 since corsair says that are specific to i3 and i5 second generation?

Usually higher end gaming notebooks or others that have BIOS's that are not locked or allow for overclocking. You laptop has a locked BIOS and does not allow the adjustment of other system voltages needed to overclock memory.

Also I do not understand why a stick give error and the other does not.

I'm sorry, somehow I missed that part. That would indicate that one of the modules is faulty and that the kit would need replaced anyway.

But you are correct they should run at a lower speed and probably were running at just 1333mhz when first installed unless your laptop would automatically select 1600mhz which some do. At any rate since you are going to need to send them back I would stick with the max allowed speed of 1600mhz that your system supports.

The other thing with OEM laptops is that if it says it only supports 1600mhz you would not be able to run them any faster because of the locked down BIOS.
