Ghoy
I've just purchased the new H100i and there seems to be black grease like substance over the copper around the applied thermal paste, it's basically a large smudge of it that starts at the edge and then continues towards the center and it seems to have been applied before the thermal paste since the smudge goes under it. There's more of them. Also there's a black dot on the thermal paste and frankly I don't know what to make of it, see attachment. From what I know the copper surface should be completely clean if not counting the thermal paste otherwise it isn't very effective.
peanutz94
It's up to you, if you want to clean it off and put new TIM on that would be fine. It would also be okay to just instal the way it is. There isn't much there to worry about.
wytnyt
i see only one small dot in the tim area and i doubt it will be a problem if left like that.

Is it possible you got it on there???? WoW.. I am looking at the photo you provided, and I see nothing to complain about. Looks brand spanking new from you're photo. If you're unhappy than simply RMA or exchange it etc..
Ghoy
No need to be rude, picture clearly shows two arrows and you can see the smudge at where the left arrow is pointing, sadly I couldn't get a better picture shot so it doesn't look as bad as it actually is due to the camera shaking. The black smudge that goes under the paste is actually very hard to remove as it seems to be some sealing agent or glue like substance, all I wanted with this post is for someone to tell me what that black crap is, preferably someone who actually works for the company that makes this parts(no offense to all the contributors). Mr_ALLroy
It looks like perhaps they shipped a "refurbished" water block. I wouldn't worry about it though. What I would strongly suggest is. Clean that stock paste off and use a good aftermarket paste such as MX-4 or Noctua NT-H1. IMO, the amount of paste they use is overkill and a pain in the *** to clean after it's been seated on a cpu. Better to clean it "thoroughly" before installing.
