dokelly07
I am running my H100i in a pull config - but otherwise installed as the blog says to. I cant do a push/pull config with this case and m/b combo. I have the stock fans on top pulling air out. I have flipped them to intake and things got hotter, by around 3 degrees - thus my reasoning for running as exhaust. My concern is this...with the removable mesh squashed down and clipped into place, it presses on the fans. I'm not really worried about that, but the noise from having a grill so close to the fans is pretty annoying. Anything above idle and you can hear air rushing through the grill holes. If I remove it, all is quiet again. I am thinking of just running metal fan grills instead of the top mesh, or cutting holes into the mesh where the fans are. I know several have RMA'd their grills hoping to get one with more room. I really dont think its a defect. Theres no way a flush grill will allow any clearance above the fans, and even if they did leave a bit - the proximity of the fans to the plastic grill is what is generating the noise. I would need a grill that gave at least an inch of clearance - and thats not happening... Suggestions from anyone else running this with a 600T...?? Thanks. Ragingsoul
it's a problem with stock fans yes, because they pull a lot of air. I switched to other quieter fans and I can close the top without any sound problem. But those run from 500 to 1500 RPM, so you could say they are less effective, but at least working and don't make any sound. Without changing it, I don't see how you can resolve this issue. They are indeed too close to the grill.
dokelly07
Yep..thats what I was thinking. My Noctuas were really quiet, but lower RPM, CFM, and suction gave me higher temps. So....needing the cooling while at 4.6 with this 3770k - I had to go back to a more powerful fan. Now I need to decide whether to hack at the plastic mesh with a rotary, or purchase some fan grills....I guess it doesn't matter either way, as I will be discarding the mesh grill in its factory form regardless. I see you have almost the same specs as me....im at 1.275 vcore for my 4.6oc - What are your temps if you don't mind me asking. I idle around 30-35 with fans pretty much silent, and peak in prime95 at 83 with the fans going full on. Noc's had same idle but hit 91 full on in prime. Ambient 24C if I'm lucky.. Thanks... Thanks... wow.. 1.275V? that's a lot for 4.6 Ghz. I'm at 1.24V at 4.7Ghz. at 4.5Ghz I'm at 1.16V under intel BurnTest full stress. above 4.5Ghz you need to up the voltage a lot with the 3770k, so, then it's up to you to see if it's worth it. At 4.5Ghz, I'm not going over 74 degrees, with ambient around 23 degrees. at 4.6Ghz, I was at around 80 degrees. at 4.7Ghz, I was hitting 92 degrees. and those temps were with lower RPM fans. I didn't test with normal fans, since they are way way too loud, escecially with the 600T
Ragingsoul
since you have the saber too, put everything on default in the bios, and in turbo evo, put 1.125V for CPU voltage (I'm at 1.12V but that's the limit, at 1.115V I'm crashing), leave block at 100Mhz and see if you have better results at 45x multiplier. dokelly07
Thanks, I really appreciate the info. It does seem as if I am pumping too many volts into this chip for 4.6 I originally wanted to sit on 4.7 - are you at 4.7 right now? It might work out that I could see my above referenced temps (current) at 4.7 with a vcore 1.24 and fans running a bit....I will never touch 90 in real world, but that was my 24/7 usage goal. I will see how it goes. Again, thanks for the insight. and curious - are you running your fans on the H100i like I am (pull from top)??

Yes, I'm pulling air out of the case. front intake, and back and top outtake.
dokelly07
Flight sim X requires as much CPU as I can throw at it, as its an older prog. and processor bound badly. It does not even use 1/3 of my 580 SLI config. But you are correct, BF3/Crysis etc....don't need anything near that power. Thanks for the info. I will be able to get the new settings in the bios when I get off work, and let you know how it goes. I will post back here.... thx again - -
