audiofreak7
Hello All, My computer crashes, doesn't boot, boots slow or runs slow when I try to run my memory at 1866 MHz. I reverted the computer back to SPD settings and it seems to be running fine (but slower of course) so far. I ran Memtest on each memory separately and together. In any of these tests I get 200+ errors in an overnight 8-hour test. Here are the important parts of my computer: Motherboard ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 Processor AMD FX-8350 Memory cmz16gx3m2a1866c9 Video Card ASUS EAX1600PRO Should I just deal with the computer at the SPD speed since it seems to be more reliable now or should I return the memory via the RMA? I seem to see a lot of problems with this type of memory on AMD FX processors on ASUS motherboards. Does this seem to be a trend? Thanks in advance for any help. audiofreak7
DanBrokenfor
Hi Audiofreak, I've had a similar problem with the same model of RAM on an ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 board with and AMD 8350. I think there is an issue with this rams compatibility with the memory controller in the processor, but I can't be completely sure. My ram returned errors even when running at 1333mhz with all the correct settings, so I returned it. The company I bought it from say that they found the ram to be faulty, so that may have been the cause of some of the errors, but I am sceptical to buy the same ram again and am looking at other alternatives. Have you tested the ram for errors at the SPD settings as well as the 1866? Thanks, Dan
audiofreak7
Hi Dan, Have you tested the ram for errors at the SPD settings as well as the 1866? Yes, I tested at both settings and still receive errors at either setting. Maybe you and I received memory from a bad batch? I too am skeptical of using the same make and model of memory given the number of errors I get when testing this memory. Much Thanks, audiofreak7
peanutz94
The FX series CPU's are extremely buggy with memory speeds above 1333mhz. Just do a quick forum search and you'll find quit a few threads all with pretty much the same issue. Have you tested each stick individually yet? If not i would do so. 200 errors a very small number and would indicate incorrect settings more than bad memory, but lets test them correctly first and see what happens. Also do you have the latest BIOS for your MB? And have you tried to run them at 1600mhz instead of 1866mhz.? Just use the same timings for 1600 as you would for 1866mhz and also be sure command rate is 2t.
Synthohol
just for reference in case you didnt see this :): for that board 1600 is the best supported speed because it has 4 slots with 2 populated.

I will also try setting at 1600 MHz. Thanks for the suggestions! audiofreak7
