panpap
Hi there, I recently built my new PC (almost a month ago) and I had the HX650 Gold edition as a PSU but it was making the chirping sound, the store replaced it with another one that was faulty too, so i decided to pay the differece in price and bought the HX750 gold edition. Now there is no chirping sound from the power supply but in medium load the fan in the PSU does not go from 0% to like 40% or so, it goes straight to 100% for about 05- 10 seconds and then shuts off. It looks like fan controller is faulty. the quote describes my problem exactly. Thank you very much Ram Guy, I really value your help and I hope that you pass our thoughts. What we are talking about here is not fan noise on "nearly full load". We are talking about noise when the fan starts spinning. As you said to me this is when 40% load occurs (though on the box it says 20%). However, the fan does not start spinning quietly. That's what disturbs us (and, I say again, the HX650 did not behave that way, the fan was always quiet). Yes, the PSU is COMPLETELY silent at low loads (great). Yes, the PSU is VERY silent at high gaming-stressing loads (amazing). It is noisy at the time between those 2 phases (bad). I want to know if this problem is solved and if it is, should i take it back for the fourth time for a replacement or make an RMA request? thanks in advance
llee8820
I originally bought a GS700 and had to RMA it twice due to fan problems, on the second RMA they replaced it with a HX750 and I have the same experience. Silent most of the time, but when the fan does turn on, its 100% full blast for a few seconds. I also wonder if this was meant to be this way. vladsinger
All the anecdotal evidence I've seen and the official response in these forums seems to confirm that this is the intended behavior of the fan in these PSUs - triggers at 50C and 40% load, ramp to apparently 100% speed, and then trail off as fast as possible. It's a rather silly design, to be honest. I don't understand why Corsair's engineers didn't grasp the fact that a quiet, constant fan is vastly less annoying than a periodic rush of a much louder noise, and the fact that the trigger point occurs during apparently low load situations on many enthusiast systems. I can't really complain as I got upgraded from a TX650 with even worse noise issues, but it's a bit disappointing considering my ancient Thermaltake 700W W0106RU was basically inaudible. I may just have to sell the HX750 if I find it too annoying when I'm working.

Yes, that does seem to be the case and mine did the same thing. Maybe once or twice an hour I would hear it, but it didn't seem that bad, so it didn't concern me. I commented on another thread that posted a video of the problem, that it seemed OK to me - I had to turn the volume way up to hear what the OP was talking about... Ram Guy posted later that he thought the fan sounded bad and the PSU should be replaced. I guess the bottom line is that if the fan from the PSU overpowers all other sounds in the case and it bothers you, then go ahead RMA it... Funny, I haven't heard the PSU fan noise in a couple of weeks - I built my PC about 6 weeks ago. Either the Fan has "worn in"; I just don't notice it anymore or it stopped working altogether(hope not).
