DeaconFrost
I just recently finished a build that included an H80i. I haven't gotten the OS installed yet, but the fans seem to be stuck on high by default. Is that the normal case? When I power on, it sounds like my case is ready to take off. I don't hear grinding or any other noises...just normal fans on full bore. I have the fans plugged in to the H80i fan controller as of now, and I was hoping that once an OS was installed and the software loaded, I'd be able to quiet the fans down. It seems odd that they would be on full bore by default, but I wanted to ask to make sure.
Toasted
The H80i should lower the RPMs after a few seconds. Are you using the stock fans?Have you tried the other fan splitter port on the H80i?
DeaconFrost
I am using both stock fans that came with the H80i, in a push pull config. I have them connected to the Y-connector and into one fan splitter port, but I can move it to another. I haven't gone past setting up the BIOS options for this computer, but I was in the BIOS looking around for a few minutes, and the fan speed stayed on full blast. I'll try the other port and write back. Thanks!
DeaconFrost
I swapped the input for the fan controller, and still have the fans on full blast the entire time I've been in the BIOS. I had other issues with the motherboard, not recognizing any memory (aside from smaller sticks), so I've sent that in for a replacement. I should have that board tonight, and can focus on trying to get the H80i to work quietly. Are there any other suggestions?
Toasted
When you install your OS, install the LINK software and see if it can lower the fan speeds.
DeaconFrost
I think we could mark this thread as solved! It took my a while to post an update due to other system issues, but I was able to load Windows 7, install Corsair Link, and update the firmware to 1.0.5. As soon as I did that, the fan speeds dropped to a near silent level, even with the case side off. My temps are hovering around 25 C at idle, so it seems to be doing its job. When I power on the system, they spin up loud for a few seconds, but then immediately drop to the quiet levels. Thanks for all the help!!!
