RobertHague
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYIsig0hAqw Not mine, but I found this video online of the exact same nose. Under standard operation, it's totally silent. If I run a game however (stressing the CPU with Prime95 didn't seem to do the trick) within a few minutes I can hear a very faint tapping sound (as in the video) then the fan spins up and the noise goes away temporarily. It spins down very shortly after however, within a few seconds, and then the noise kind of returns till it spins up again a few seconds later. It does that continually until the system load is reduced. I find it highly unlikely that myself, a poster in here and the person making that YT video (as well as a few commenters saying they had the same) would have the same defect in the fan? If the system is warmer (on/or activate for a long time) the noise seems to reduce slightly. But that may simply be because the fan is spinning up more often. My system is a new pre-build btw. Anyway I wanted to get a response on this as my system is only a week old and if I need a new PSU I want to sort it with the place I bought the system from (the thread I replied in already seems to have died). Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 20, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 20, 2013 First it is not a failure it is caused by the way the fan is controlled and is not uncommon as you have found. But it should not be so loud that you can hear it over the other fan noise if the system is closed up.
RobertHague
Really? Well it's good to know that its not an actual fault I guess. My system is really quiet (just the GPU and Corsair H80). I do wear headsets at times, but I guess I will either have to live with it or ask the system builder to swap the PSUs for another version. It is actually extremely loud, imagine a fan (1200rpm) the sounds that come out of this psu is 4 times louder and extremely annoying!

If the noise is unbearable and louder than any of your case fans or components, then my advice is you get the unit replaced. Use the link on the left to submit an RMA request.
