Snarls
Hi all, new guy here. I too am experiencing this issue. I installed my new AX860 into a new rig yesterday and all good, till I powered off and was treated to the high pitch whine noise. It went away 10 secs after I flicked the master switch on the back of the PSU. Should I return the PSU to the retailer as it has been less than 1 week since purchase (and show them this thread) or do an RMA here at no cost to me? Snarls
Actually, I think I have found a fix I can live with. On my gigabyte z77 motherboard, I have changed the USB head for the case's front panel to not use the USB port on the mboard which charges USB devices even when PC is off. In addition, I went into bios and enabled ErP which doesn't allow the system to consume power in a shutdown state. It means I can't use wake on LAN or power on by mouse or k/board but I'm not worried about that. Now when I shut the PC down, there is no whine, yay! G'day RAM GUY, thanks for your advice. I have logged an RMA and my case number is 5628218. Thank you kindly. I will need an advance replacement as I am well into some new projects now and unfortunately can't go with downtime at present.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 19, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 19, 2013 I have just got it approved. I have sent you an instruction as well on how to request and advance replacement, that way you can avoid down time during the process.
shawnoen
Nothing wrong with your system, Corsair wont address the issue so youll just get another one that makes noise. Loose windings inside the transformer is the source of the noise.
Snarls
Thanks RAMGuy. Is shipping it to Hong Kong from Australia to be done at my expense or is there some kind of reimbursement system? I will phone the US number you provided me and I will attempt to arrange advance replacement. Fingers crossed the replacement is whine free
Snarls
OK I have arranged an advance RMA. I am shuddering at the cost of shipping my defective PSU to Hong Kong from Australia though. Considering that the unit was less than a week old, it may have been more economical for me to have returned it to the retailer here. Hopefully the replacement will be issue free. Snarls
Well installed the replacement PSU and same issue. I have simply enabled eRP in my BIOS settings and this seems to shut it up for the most part. Compliments to Corsair on a speedy replacement but clearly there is an issue with these PSUs...
