Asus P9X79 - Corsair Vengeance problems

Hello people!

I've had some difficulties with the speed of my RAM. They should be able to handle 1600MHz but, for some reason my computer refuses to boot or POST when it's on anything higher than 1066MHz.

My details are as follows:

Intel® Core i7-3820

ASUS P9X79

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB CL9 (2x4GB)

If anyone knows what to do about this, please advice me.

I have tried memtest86, did 7 runs without any errors.

Do you have the latest BIOS for your MB? If not please flash to the latest version .

Are you using XMP or just setting them to 1600mhz? If you are NOT using the XMP profile, try using that first, it will also adjust other system voltages as well as the timings and speed.

Sorry for the late response. Yes I was just setting them to 1600MHz, knowing no better.

I'll try the using XMP tonight when I turn the computer off. :)

Sorry for the late response - Been away for awhile.

So I tried putting the XMP profile on and this works fine on the initial restart after BIOS, but when I tried turning on the computer the next day, I had to go into the computer and use the "MemOK" button on the motherboard, which resets it in the MHz until the computer is able to start.

That reset the MHz back to 1066. Any other ideas on how to fix this?

I've already flashed my BIOS to the latest version.

Also - I've been thinking about getting more RAM into my computer.

However, I believe I read somewhere that when you dont buy RAM sticks in a 'complete' pack, meaning that you didn't purchase them seperately, they'll have a high chance of not working together. Is this true?

And if that's true, will that also happen if I buy the same brand, but simply more sticks?

The sticks in my current setup are these: http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=618010

Yes, this is true. and also a practice Corsair does not recommend or suggest. Even if they are two packages of the same part number. There is just no way to tell if any two random kits would work with each other.

So I tried putting the XMP profile on and this works fine on the initial restart after BIOS, but when I tried turning on the computer the next day, I had to go into the computer and use the "MemOK" button on the motherboard, which resets it in the MHz until the computer is able to start.

Re-enablae XMP like you did before but this time set the memory or DIMM voltage to 1.55v or 1.6v if need be. That should cure it.

Will check this later today and post back if it worked. :)

EDIT: If someone could delete/merge my double posts, that would be appreciated. :)
