hulabbs
Hello, New to this forum but I am having trouble tonight firing up my new dominator memory CMD16GX3M4A2800C11 @ 2800mhz Here is my system Asus Rampage 4 Extreme MB Intel 3970X proc CMD16GX3M4A2800C11 Memory Asus GTX 690 x2 SLI OCZ Revodrive 3 X2 (480gb) So when I enter the bios and use XMP 1.3 the machine never boots. I tried to set the voltage to 1.5 from 1.65 (not sure if I did that right) anyone have any ideas? I bought two sets and tried both sets. (Made sure not to mingle the matched pairs) thank you,
peanutz94
I don't expect it would. Those modules are aimed more towards the overclocking enthusiast and are not really a module you would want for a machine you want to be stable for 24/7 use. Your CPU supports a max speed of 1600mhz and your trying to overclock them clear to 2800mhz which is a HUGE memory overclock. You need to try lowering the frequency to something more conservative like 2133mhz and slowly start raising the speed until it wont post any more to find out the limits of your CPU. Most of the Ivybridge CPU's will be able to run memory up to about 2200mz-2400mhz but after that it starts getting pretty tough.
hulabbs
Thanks for the replay. I got it stable at 2400 so I will have to settle for that I guess. I get the whole 1600mhz CPU but honestly Corsair isnt selling these chips for future use but for the machines we build today. anyway. thanks again I really appreciate it. As far as running them stable for a 24/7 machine goes ,no! 2400mhz is a huge memory overclock! Congrats! But they are used today by the best of the best overclockers who don't mind voiding warranties or catching MB's on fire!. It does happen. But we are talking just long enough to post and run a benchmark. This is what put Corsair on the roadmap of performance computer memory! Google extreme overclocking and you'll get a better idea. Insulating MB's with silly putty ,eraser material, foam insulation, and liquid nitrogen for CPU cooling.!!! If you have never seen it, take a look, it's pretty wild to watch. But here's a good example of some pics of what I'm talking about https://www.google.com/search?q=liquid+nitrogen+overclocking&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Uh3&tbo=u&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=axodUfziB6fy0QH6x4DYAg&ved=0CHYQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=
