newskin
I have a HX520, 5 years old still going strong, however over the course of time I have misplaced a few of the cables. I am now looking to buy a new graphics card that requires 2x 6pins. I only have one of the originals. My question is does using 2x molex to 6 pin PCIE work fine or mess up the units power management? As it has two dedicated PCIE slots, I assume that is how it was designed to be connected. Obviously I can get the replacement cable but the postage is twice the cable cost to the UK so a £2 molex is preferable! Thanks
peanutz94
Depends on the GPU. Which one are you getting?
newskin
7870 - I have read conflicting reports about how the rails are divided in the hx520 - some saying it can be treated as a single rail system, others that sockets are divided across rails. If that is the case, I would like to ensure that if i did use a molex, that those were on a different rail to the pcie power cable i do have. thanks
peanutz94
That card can use up to 180w at full load. It would be better to just get a splitter for your PCI cable and not try to take it from a molex, or of course order the cable from Corsair. That is also really cutting close as far as leaving enough wattage to run the rest of your system depending on your other components. You could also call the CS line and see if there is anything they can do about shipping.

Got a buddy using his 620 to power an oc'd 2500K and pair of 660Ti's at the moment, they were an upgrade from the 560Ti's he had been running with it You would have to have one hell of a power hungry system for a 7870 to be to much for the
