vTaranov
Hello. I am about to buy an Intel Core i7 3770K and Corsair Dominator GT 2133 DDR3 ram, but I am being held back because I am having a compatibility issue. Intel Spec sheet says the core i7 is only compatible with 1333 MHz DDR3 ram. Am I mistaken? Is that the slowest ram it is compatible with? My plan is 16GB of DDR3 2133 with the i7. Link to spec sheet: http://ark.intel.com/products/65523/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-Processor-%288M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz%29 Link to Memory: http://www.corsair.com/us/memory-by-product-family/dominator/dominator-gt-with-dhx-pro-connector-1-5v-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmt16gx3m4x2133c9.html My core question is can I use the i7-3770K with Corsair's Dominator GT 2133+ DDR3? Any help is greatly appreciated, but some proof (or evidence of any sort) would be great. . peanutz94
My core question is can I use the i7-3770K with Corsair's Dominator GT 2133+ DDR3? You can, but the actual speed you can run your memory at would be highly CPU dependant. Your CPU only supports a max frequency of 1600mhz so anything above that would depend on the strength or weakness of your CPU's memory controller. Most CPU's will be able to run memory at 1866 and 2133mhz pretty easily but once above that all bets are off. If your looking for 24/7 stability ,then you probably wouldn't want to go any higher than 2133mhz unless you really know what your doing with overclocking. I'm not really sure what you want for "proof"...those are facts!
vTaranov
1866 is what the ram said it normally runs at. I'm happy with 1866, but like the head room (2133+) if I decide to push the memory. I just wanted to be 100% sure that I am not throwing away $250 for memory that wont work, but now that I know that is will work (my first assumption) I will go ahead and purchase the CPU and memory. Thanks! (:
peanutz94
1866 is what the ram said it normally runs at. No, i think your mis-understanding this. No where does it say they would run at 1866 normally. Look at the "tech specs" page of the product description. You have SPD or what is default speed which is 1333mhz. Then you have "tested" speed which would be the overclocked settings of 2133mhz. You can however set them to anything in etween. Those modules or any modules for that fact will normally run at 1333mhz until otherwise set. Or the XMP profile is enabled. Then they should run at 2133mhz. But this will still be dependent on your CPU. And this is even though your CPU support 1600mhz memory natively. You would still need to set them to 1600mhz when first installed if you wanted to run them at the max speed of your CPU. If your particular CPU can handle 2133mhz then the memory will run at that. If it can't you may have to run them slower or try 1866mhz. But there is no way of looking or to tell how well any CPU will run overclocked memory. They are all different even within the same CPU familiy.

Hi vTaranov i7-3770K is one ove the best CPU for overclocking and 2133MHz memory kit is a goog choice. But for stability buy your memory in 1 kit. Don't fill 1/2 ove memory slot to buy more memory later. As mixing memory kits is not supported by Corsair. I don't said that 2 kits won't worck together but you could have stability issue. Finally the choice oce motherboard is verry important. As a cheap one will not give great stability. EVGA Z77 FTW and INTEL DZ77RE-75K Extreme Series is very rock solid motherboard. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=151-IB-E699-KR http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/desktop-board-dz77re-75k.html Hope this help Sincerly yours
