Paul99
I had a stable configuration using Windows 7 64 and having set up my Force GT SSD for Caching with my Barracuda in AHCI mode on the Marvell SATA 6 Gb/s connectors of my P9X79 board. I installed Windows 8 64 on top, and everything worked fine for about 3 weeks. Then everything died. On Boot no disk was recognized. I flashed the BIOS, I did a clean install of Windows 8, I re-installed drivers, I changed the SATA cables. Still no disks visible. I removed the SSD, everything worked fine. I put the SSD on a different Sata connector, everything except the SSD worked fine. Is my SSD dead? What next ?
Toasted
Is the SSD detected in the BIOS? If not, try it on another computer and see if it is.
Paul99
Is the SSD detected in the BIOS? If not, try it on another computer and see if it is. No. I'll give it a try, but somehow I doubt it. The problem here is that the "other" computer is setup for Raid and the SSD for AHCI. I stuck it in anyhow ! Drive was not found. Toasted
Change the SATA mode to AHCI temporarily and see if the drive is detected in the BIOS. If it's still not detected, request an RMA to replace it.
Paul99
Thanks very much for your advice. I will try to do this. One question however, when I change the mode from RAID to AHCI and then back again, won't I lose all the data on the RAID disk ? It's a big disk and I don't have the means to back it up fully. Toasted
You can disconnect the drives before changing it to AHCI in case anything wrong happens.
Paul99
Did it, SSD still not detected, proceeding to the RMA step. Thanks again for your help!
