atsele
Hello I have an Asus P6T motherboard with latest BIOS 1408 i am thinking of buying a 12GB Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kit. Is Corsair XMS3 CMX12GX3M3A1333C9 12GB Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kit compatible by default with my motherboard?
Synthohol
http://www2.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?sc=us&id=831942 this is the list from the Corsair memory configurator.
atsele
According to that configurator there is no 12GB (3x4)memory kit at 1333Mhz certified from Corsair for my motherboard .So for operating frequency 1333Mhz, 12GB triple kit should i purchase another brand ? Synthohol
just get a set of 1600's they will default to 1333 unless you enable XMP for 1600.
atsele
So if choose CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9 by default they will run at 1333MHz without any problems for my P6T.And if i enable XMP they will run at 1600MHz without any problems also? atsele
Eventually ,from corsair memory configurator for my motherboard, i am going for the Vengeance® — 24GB Triple Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9) and hopefully expecting from it to work. Will wit work out of the box or it will need some tweaking, except extreme memory profile setting , any tips?
Synthohol
whatever your CPUs default is. if its 1333 then it will default to 1333. if you want 1600 then enable XMP in the bios. :)
atsele
My CPU is i7975 so logically the default should be 1333 ,as my current setting is AUTO and corsair TR3X6G1333C9 runs at 1333MHz. I was asking for some tips because with that kit, all memory slots will be occupied and from what i see in the forums when that happens in a X58 motherboard you might have to tweak something to run all this memory right. This CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9 kit was for P6T according to corsair memory configurator ,does that means that corsair tried with my motherboard P6T and run with default BIOS settings (and X.M.P.) with no problems? One guy with ASUS motherboard and this kit changed i think ref cycle time to recognise all the memory.http://youtu.be/_hWWYlf13ug

Correct! Take my system for example. (specs in the drodown) In running a 24gig kit at a 1600mhz with all six slots filled. It took quite abit more memory controller voltage(QPI) to get it stable. You also have to make sure you have good CPU cooling because raising the QPI voltage will result in higher CPU temps. This CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9 kit was for P6T according to corsair memory configurator ,does that means that corsair tried with my motherboard P6T and run with default BIOS settings (and X.M.P.) with no problems? Correct again! They did test this kit with this MB and should run the XMP profile easily...but there is still a chance that you may have to ake some adjustments here and there. Your buying enthusiast grade memory and is not always plug and play. One guy with ASUS motherboard and this kit changed i think ref cycle time to recognise all the memory.http://youtu.be/_hWWYlf13ug I really would suggest you leave that setting alone for now. That is only changed if WINDOWS doesn't recognize all 24 gigs of the memory. Just leave it on auto .
atsele
Correct! Take my system for example. (specs in the drodown) In running a 24gig kit at a 1600mhz with all four slots filled. It took quite abit more memory controller voltage(QPI) to get it stable. You also have to make sure you have good CPU cooling because raising the QPI voltage will result in higher CPU temps. . I am not an overclocker as you and i am not planing to overclock my CPU. I have stock Intel cooler and my CPU runs at stock speed 3.33Mhz-3.47Mhz with Intel's turbo boost.I just wish this kit will run out of the box with no problems. peanutz94
This has nothing to do with overclocking the CPU but everything to do with the loads placed on the memory controller. So my previous statement still applies...the memory controller is IN the CPU itself and why temps rise with greater loads. More sticks = more load. And i corrected my last statement...I meant all six slots not four!:)
atsele
O.K. i am waiting for this kit to arrive and test it and i will post my results.
atsele
I just received my CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9 kit .I cleared CMOS installed all 6 dimms, cleared CMOS again, load setup defaults from BIOS and reboot and everything seems to be O.K. From the first post all 24GB are recognized also Windows sees them all. For the time being i have everything on AUTO according to memory so they run at 1333MHz speed.I am going to run Memtest86+ v4.2 to check them and see if they are indeed O.K. atsele
I have been running memtest86+ for 25 hours and 7 passes with 0 errors at 1333MHz, should i stop testing it and try with 1600 X.M.P?

atsele
I have change from BIOS to X.M.P. to Profile1 1600MHz ,reboot and again from first post all memory was detected ,in windows also too. (Note :Currently i dont have my 64bit O.S. cause my 4 years old HDD which i had it installed died 20 days ago and i am still waiting for R.M.A ,so when i say my windows recognise the memory, they do but as a 32bit O.S only 2,99 are usable) There is only one X.M.P as you see 9,9,9,24 dram volt 1.5 which sets QPI/Dram at 1.3 volt.Is it normal that there is only one X.M.Profile ,should i try to lower down the QPI? peanutz94
Is it normal that there is only one X.M.Profile ,should i try to lower down the QPI? Yes, it's normal for them to only have one XMP profile. They are only 1600mhz kits and basically there would only be one overclock profile. Also , yes,it's normal for QPI to be set to 1.3v . That is needed to compensate for the extra load on the memory controller. If you run memtest at 1600mhz and get any errors you may need to go even higher with the QPI voltage. 1.35-1.45v is normal. I have been running memtest86+ for 25 hours and 7 passes with 0 errors at 1333MHz, should i stop testing it and try with 1600 X.M.P? 3 passes would be plenty enough. If you wan to run three passes at 1600mhz thats fine. But this would already indicate the memory is fine. If it's going to fail, it will fail at all frequencies, not just one. atsele
According to this thread. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=94782&highlight=Cmz24gx3m6a1600c9 SkyRyder has the same kit as mine and he has 2 profiles X. M. P. although one of his two profiles is problematic for cas latency the qpi voltages are lower.
Synthohol
OMG i remember that thread, if your sticks work dont do anything, forget you even saw the extra profile.if i remember that thread he had a perfect set and RMAd just because of the SPD clerical error but it took 3 or 4 sets of RMAs to get another perfect running set when his first set worked perfect to begin with.just set it and forget it! PLEASE!!! :):
peanutz94
SkyRyder has the same kit as mine and he has 2 profiles X. M. P. although one of his two profiles is problematic for cas latency the qpi voltages are lower. That was almost a year ago .That issue has since been corrected and why you only have one profile. With your chipset the QPI is supposed to be around 1.3v or higher depending on your CPU. Like Synthohol said, don't pay any attention to it. atsele
O.K. I will stick to that particullary X.M.P. without changing anything and start testing it with memtest86+ .I will post back the results.
atsele
After ten and a half hours with X.M.P. 1600 enabled i have 3 passes and no errors in memtest. So it seems that CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9 kit is O.K. and it worked out of the box for me, both for SPD 1333MHz and X.M.P.1600MHz. When i get my 64bit O.S. running again and using this memory ,if anything changes i will post back but for now this kit seems to be fully functional with my Asus P6T.Another thing is that although X.M.P. upped my QPI Voltage to 1.3 i did not noticed any temperature change for my CPU.
