ace004
Ok guys I'm building a brand new pc and I'm a complete newbie, so please bare with me. After searching the forums for hours, I decided the h100 was going to be my first dive into water cooling. Keep in mind the pc isn't fully built yet. I read to avoid the fan teething/control issues you could run the fans off of the mobo instead, and adjust the speeds via motherboard control. So I went out and got 4 corsair sp120's and hooked them all up to my mobo fan sockets. Is that all that's needed to bypass the fan problem? I also read that the corsair's software is constantly accessing the harddrive. How can I stop that? Do I just not connect the USB corsair link? Seeing that I don't have my fans plugged into the water block, I would think I could bypass the link stuff. Can the h100I run fine without that usb link cable ever being installed? Would that stop me from ever having the hard drive issues? Does that affect the pump in any way? Is all I need is the sata power connector & 3-pin pump rpm wire? I don't have an extra usb socket available, and was wondering if I even needed it since I want my mobo to control the fans. Is my thinking right here? Remember I'm a complete newbie and I just want to get it all hooked up right. I don't care about multiple cooling profiles or anything like that, I also read somewhere I can do that with 3rd party software and my mobo. Thanks for the help. Toasted
The H100i may not control the SP120 fans when it's plugged into the block. The high pitch noise issue will be fixed by a new set of fans which will be PWM. I think there will be a software update that allows you to disable harddrive monitoring. Yes, the H100i will work fine without the LINK cable and SW. The service included with the software causing the HD noise, It will not affect the pump in anyway. The SATA power connector and 3-pin are the ones you should connect. The SATA power cable powers the pump and fan controller, the 3-pin allows you to monitor the pump's RPM via the BIOS. It's recommended to plug it into the CPU_FAN header to prevent the CPU_FAN error.
TwispF4
Keep the fans you bought and install them in your case or something, but Corsair is releasing some new fans for those of us who have a loud as hell pump which I would assume you would also have if your unit is recently purchased. RMA the fans you get with your unit if you're getting the problem most of us are. About corsair link monitoring your HDD, can't you just end the Sierra_whatever.exe process? Or whatever one Corsair link uses.
tricetri
sp 120 fans work normally when connected to the water block. I tried yesterday. No buzzing. The best solution is that you get a fan controler and put the fans that you have. Corsair Link does not have to be installed. If you have windows 8 and install Corsair link, after about 10 minutes of work you will appear blue screen.
