psteph
Hi there, I've just switched from an old Enermax power supply to a Corsair AX760. EIST, ErP, EPU are disabled by default. I tried disabling C1E and Speedstep but this unit won't stop whining even when the computer is powered off. The noise usually goes away 30 seconds after switching the PSU off (I guess when the capacitors are discharged); It won't when the computer is powered off and the switch is not set to "0". I tested it on another motherboard but still no luck. Switching from Hybrid to Normal mode did not resolve it either. I used to own a HX620W that would not stop whining unless I turn off C1E. I had to get rid of it as a replacement yielded the same results. Before posting I read similar posts (AX860 included) and wonders what the best move is. Should I RMA it, wait for a potential recall (or whatever Corsair comes up with) or eventually swap it for an AX760i which I heard has no coil whine ? Kind regards, Stéphane. And you would receive the same model back in return. So if you are thinking of swapping models you would need to return it to your reseller and then repurchase the model you want. If you would like to RMA the PSU, then please use the link on the left to request an RMA if thats the route you choose.

shawnoen
Loose windings inside the transformer is the source of the noise.

HellionGR
Have an AX860 here.Same problem as the OP and tried all the usual stuff EiST,C1E etc .Very bad luck since this is a replacement to my ax860i who had fan problem. Its very annoying high pitch especially when the pc is turned off.So bad if you sleep in the same room you wake up with the echo in your hearing. Mine doesnt go away at all by the way.Until i remove completely the cable off.And starts as soon as i plug the cord without even starting the pc. Returned it to shop of purchase its a usual problem as seen from the posts in here which corsair acknowledges.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2013 Loose windings inside the transformer is the source of the noise. No solid data to back this up.
psteph
Hello, I'm updating this thread as the coil whine is still occurring even with the replacement unit and even with a bunch of new components (motherboard, CPU, RAM, display). Have you finally pinpointed what the issue really is ?
